Perfect for a reasonably priced stay while in the lake district. Cheap and cheerful but the facilities reflect this. Food is next door at the services, but tea and coffee are supplied in your room

Killington Lake is a very beautiful service area that is most convenient for the M6 yet set back and screened from any road noise. There was no heated towel rail in the bathroom and the single member of staff was not qualified to put a fuse in the socket to mend it. The accommodation had was rather tired and worn and there was a sharp spring sticking through the mattress in our bed in Room 34. Overall, this did not offer value for money.

V helpful receptionist on arrival. Next morning a staff member went beyond the call of duty - English was her 2nd language - to help us obtain a money off voucher for the food outlett, much appreciated

Fix, repaint, redecorate and get rid of the smells
Quite possibly one of the worst hotel experiences in the UK - million dollar setting for a very very old, dilapidated property where no one seemed to care a jot! The front door was broken and off its hinges, the reception grill was down more than it was open as in don't bother us we are probably in the front having a cigarette (as was the case), the room stunk like wet dog -on arrival I went straight back to front desk to ask for another room only to be told the property was full no other rooms - i had worked all day, travelled hours and it was late so leaving for another property from the middle of no where was it seemed not an option - also quite likely because i doubt i would have received my money back. The old bathrooms simply had the tiles painted over in white paint and there was grime around all the tiles though the bathroom seemed clean enough. The walls were full of nasty stains with no effort to paint over or clean, heaven knows what they were but certainly a bit scary. I emptied some expensive aftershave around the room which masked the awful smell for a half hour then it came back. I woke up at 6 am to get out of the room but the person i did see briefly could not even tell me what time Costa opened - so i sat in the car freezing to avoid going back to the room until the coffee shop eventually opened. The bedding appeared clean and the bed itself was not uncomfortable but the room itself and the experience and lack of service was certainly not worth almost £100!!

Family break
Lovely place to stay, brilliant view of the lake. Nice coffee in room, room was a nice temperature, bathroom with shower was very clean and relatively modern. Had no sound issues, hotel is set a long way from motorway so no noise from that. Very nice member of staff checked us in and helped us with our stay with an extra pillow for my daughter. Very good value for money and a great base to visit areas in the Lake District. We visited Kendal, Windermere and south lakes zoo. Free parking

Smell was in room. Water tap was not fixed properly. Towels were so old. Threads were coming out. Whole night my family were doing itching. Might be due to linen. I booked the room by applying my blue light card but hotels.com not gave us 10% off as per there terms on blue light card.

Excellent overnight stay as very close to M6. Quiet location with lake view & very nice staff. Only downside being a lack of restaurants. Though given it is mostly used as an overnight stop Costa Coffee & McDonalds do provide a service. The staff at petrol station too are very helpful.

Warm and cosy room
Great place to stay for a weekend away before Christmas handy for Kendal and Lancaster. Weather typical of Lake District but you cannot book that. A lovely view over the lake, warm and comfortable. Plenty of hot water.

Don’t waste your money
Wouldn’t stay at one of these chains again. The room smelt strange and was very cold no heating. Beds were so soft where I had to sleep on the duvet. Don’t waste your money staying at this chain!!

I booked for a Lakeview room but I was given a room next to the car park. The short stay was to rest from a long drive. We checked late, in time to sleep so I didn’t bother to make a fuss because of tiredness. The bathroom ceiling is mouldy, same around and above the windows that was very wet due to condensation. The window is restricted to be opened! We can hear everyone that passing the hallway and the noisy door/door handles.

The building fit out is desperately in need of a makeover. The rooms need painting and bathrooms replacing as difficult to clean being in poor state. Shower curtain too long and made bath slippery. Safety issue for guests. As a 1 night stop over it was adequate.

Great stopover point
Lovely stop for an overnight stay en route to Scotland from the south. Very dog friendly too. Easy free parking - McDonald's next door. Take snacks etc as no shops nearby. Very comfortable - fabulous views and great value.

If Carlsberg did motorway service hotels… Absolutely stunning location, lambs, swans, signers, lake and sailboats. Simply beautiful, especially considering it’s a motorway services with all the conveniences that entails. The man on reception bent over backwards to help us as we had forgotten to book an accessible room. Excellent.

No frills, but fairly decent, in a handy location for exploring the lakes. The bathrooms could do with a bit of a makeover. Lovely view of Killington lake.

This was an idea spot to stop half way for our trip from Somerset to Scotland. It is conveniently just off the motorway. We had our dog with us and she was made very welcome by the staff. The staff were very helpful and answered all our queries. We would definitely stay again.
