Only the best of the best have made it in Hollywood and had their names etched into the brass and set inside a coral-pink, terrazzo five-pointed star.
Unlike many of downtown LA’s sidewalks, this is one walkway where visitors aren’t going anywhere fast as they gaze down at the pavement at the celebrities beneath their feet.
Covering a staggering 15 blocks of pavement across Hollywood Boulevard, this glitzy walkway has been paying tribute to its entertainers since 1960. The idea of immortalising stars in the pavement started off as a gimmick designed to bring visitors to an area that was slowly losing its sheen. Originally, it started with its first few stars which included Burt Lancaster and Joanne Woodward. Turning out to be a popular attraction, the city has since added around 2,400 names to its runway of glittering stardom. Some you’ll instantly recognise and others have been lost from the public consciousness over time.
As you gaze down at your feet, you will notice one of five symbols representing the contributions made by each honouree to a specific area of the entertainment industry. Just below the name of each star you’ll notice a symbol that denotes the area of the entertainment industry they represent, these being a motion-picture camera, a television set, a radio microphone, a theatrical mask or a music record.
If you look closely, you’ll notice that not all the stars face the same way. This design is deliberate and allows visitors in both directions to see the stars from different angles.
While you’re walking, you may find yourself surrounded by celebrity impersonators, panhandlers and various entertainers, all looking to make a dollar or two.

Reviews of Hollywood Walk of Fame
4/5 - Good
If you go from the start of the walk do it in the daytime, not a great area.
3/5 - Okay
My daughter and I were a little disappointed with the walk of fame it was not that special
4/5 - Good
Worth seeing if only to find your favourite actor but it goes on for much more than you think
1/5 - Terrible
We were very disappointed with the Hollywood Walk of Fame, it was dirty and lots of people trying to push their goods on you. You couldn’t see half the stars as there were stalls on them and as we walked down the road away from the Dolby Theatre area , we didn’t feel that safe.
2/5 - Disappointing
A lot of the walk is dirty and damaged.
4/5 - Good
Fun to spot names you know. Can get very busy at times. Some people try to push their CDs on you (but hey that's Hollywood!) Have to say it's very Blackpool like, but with the added interest of film nostalgia etc.
