Friendly hotel great views of sea and also the Bandstand just across the road if you have a sea view room which is well worth it. Would definitely recommend and stay again

Stayed for a couple of nights on the top floor. Whilst a little tired in areas, this didn't affect the comfort of the room. Excellent value especially when treated to wonderful sea views. Didn't eat at the hotel as it was a celebration visit so food not needed therefore can't comment. Our friends paid almost 10x more for the hotel up the road .... I bet they didn't sleep any better than us!

We really loved our room. Everything you could need and THE BEST sea view ever! I also wanted to say a massive thank you to Ruth on reception as I called in a panic after we had left as my husband had left his wallet in our room. She was amazing and so were the house keeping who found it AND all safe. Other staff members were lovely too who we met

The location is perfect from the beach 2-3 minutes walk. The hotel is a sea front hotel.The local centre is a few minutes away where you can find a lot of food shops. Theres alot of halal places to eat but there’s not much choice to choose from. We were quite upset. There was a horrible smell as you enter Cumberland hotel. The rooms are average but the bathroom is Really Run Down!! It really needs a complete revamp. The housekeeping service was extremely slow. Parking is good you can buy a £2 pass from the reception for 24 hours and Sundays are free to park.

Thank you for your review Sobina Rashid.Regarding the ''horrible smell'' as you enter the hotel, we would need to know what kind of smell you encountered. If somebody was smoking near the entrance to the hotel, we do have signs up but they obviously are ignored.We are currently upgrading some of our rooms. Unfortunately we can only upgrade a few rooms every year, as our budget allows.I am surprised that you found our housekeeping service so slow, as we are always getting praised on how fantastic they are. Your comments will be shown to all department heads.

We found bedbugs in our bed. We were relocated. On checking out another resident was complaining that he found human faeces under his bed in a room he’d been moved to also having found bedbugs in the first. I’ve stayed here before but am very unlikely to return.

Yes this hotel is old but I would say it has character and we really enjoyed our stay it was quirky! The lady that checked us in was fabulous wish I had of got her name she was so welcoming and friendly and really made us feel at home she is a credit to this hotel and we will definitely be back ! It’s also in a great location and close to all you need !

Good evening Thank you for your review.We can usually accommodate an early check in if notified beforehand. Unfortunately, the day you checked in we had a full house checkout. Our housekeeping team can only access the rooms after 10am, and then have to strip, clean & air all rooms before the next lot of arrivals.If you book again, please let us know & we will ensure you get your early check in.

The Cumberland is a good hotel.
The Cumberland is a charming old hotel. Friendly staff on arrival. Easy check in and in my case, a bargain room price. Although rather dated, the room was clean, tidy & comfortable. Possibly needs a new mattress, some minor paintwork & an extra socket or two. Sound proofing not great but really not bad. I liked it there; I’ll stay again.

From time to time we hold functions in our Ballroom (finishing time between 11/12pm) and our Hotel is opposite the Bandstand (finishing time 10pm roughly).We can suggest rooms on the 4th floor and hope to see you back at the Cumberland.

Wonderful Eastbourne accommodation
We came down to Eastbourne for 4 days of the tennis tournament and chose this hotel for the proximity to the tennis courts (10 minutes walk). We were not disappointed with the choice. We had a large recently refurbished room with a balcony and wonderful sea view. The beds were really comfortable. The buffet breakfast was plentiful with hot and cold choices of food and beverages. The staff were extremely courteous at all times. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a wonderful stay in Eastbourne.

Good value sea view room. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly. Room was lovely and clean, with comfy bed. Common areas of the hotel could do with an update. Breakfast ok but could have been better for the price.

A nice stay for a night
I booked the room for a night and to be fair it was a nice room. I had sea view from the window but it wasn't of much use as one cannot really enjoy the view. You'll need to keep standing to see the view. I guess the hotel could have made use of a better planner in how to design the room. However, it was a good time.

Great value stay
The Cumberland hotel, like a lot of hotels asking the sea front is a little tired in places. However we got a cheap stay in a clean hotel with attentive service, so are pleased.

I was overall impressed with the hotel. In a great location, and the staff were very helpful and friendly. The single room was fine and had a fabulous sea view. Only downside was the shower, which wasn't very good in terms of output and the head dropped down. Lovely having a drink overlooking the road/seafront.

Stay was good had a lovely room only down side was i booked two rooms with shared balcony one rooms was large and very nice the other was tiny and nothing looke the other room but both rooms were same price
