Check-in process was fine, although surprised to be told housekeeping was only available upon request. Room was disappointing, marks on the walls, skirting boards and table. Room also had a musky smell as if no-one had been in it for a while. Bathroom/shower was good enough, toilet flusher was a bit temperamental, but again felt like hadn't been used for a while. Bed mattress was a little firm but otherwise comfortable. WiFi provided has to be paid for, £7 a day. Didn't go by car and didn't use the restaurants, so can't comment on the process of those. The windows and sills in the stairwell between floors were dirty and some window panes had holes in. Get the overall impression that the hotel isn't loved by those who run it, and it is being run on a budget, as when a painter and decorator is only painting the bits by the entrance stairs and nowhere else, the WiFi has to be paid for, and each floor feels different to each other, it gives a confusing and disappointing approach given how much you pay (averaged at £75 a night) for what you get. Overall I wouldn't stay here again, the hotel/room did it's job of giving me somewhere to stay and nothing more, and unfortunately I was glad to leave.

Was nice having a sea view and the room was nice and airy, but furniture was tired and some areas of the building could do with a bit of a facelift. Location was perfect, car park was full but used the side street and was fine. Breakfast was a buffet, good descriptions for allergies. Overall good for a night or two and for the price it’s fair.

They obviously spent a lot of money making the reception and bar nice, but the rooms seemed to have been neglected. Stains on walls, corners and windows dirty, hairs in bathroom. Random things around the hotel broken. Fine for one night stay

The property is in a really good location close to shops and on the beach front. Upgraded my room to balcony room and had lovely view of the sea. Staff:, the turkish man who works the bar was lovely and very professional. Restaurant staff could be a bit more friendly, they literally pointed to a table and left us to get on with it with barely a good morning or a have a nice day, reception staff were friendly and helpful. Room wasnt cleaned or made up for our entire stay but that is a minor issue for us. For the room itself, its ok needed a clean as dusty and bed was lumpy and bumpy. The room itself needs modernising, its an old hotel so could do with a makeover in most areas. Bathroom sink was cracked but bathroom seemed clean enough. Balcony had loads of cigerette butts on the ground but they came straightaway to clean them once informed. Overall we enjoyed our stay here, breakfast is buffet, the usual selection of cooked, cereals and crossaints, didnt have dinner there so cant comment on dinner. They have their own car park which you have to pay for. On the bad side the room was freezing because they put the heaters on in the evening. This made the room too hot at night when you trying to sleep as they stayed on and there is no way to control the heat. There was also no handle on the balcony door so couldnt fully close it as we wouldnt have been able to get back in the room which just added to the cold in the room. Ideal place for weekend stay.

When we got there the door keys weren’t working which isn’t the hotel’s fault. The bar didn’t open until 6pm - bizarre for a Saturday & closed at 11. Bed was horrific felt like I was lying higher up than my OH and if I rolled over, I rolled down. The staff were very nice to be fair but couldn’t believe the bar didn’t open until 6!

Poor customer service. I was lied and fake promises for upgrade. Old chips under bed . Bathroom stunk of wee and very dirty. Basin water kept on building up.

Friendly staff, clean and comfortable, i liked the fact there was an electric heater to use in our room, as it made sense not having the heating system on, we put the electric heater on when needed, saves energy. Brilliant idea. Breakfast excellent. Throughly enjoyed our 3day stay.

A very pleasant stay.
Enjoyed a one night stay with the children. Was very lucky and able to check in early with adjoining sea view rooms….brill. We could see the bandstand and it was very much appreciated. B’fast was a plenty my only disappointment was that we had a green safety light which was super bright and meant we couldn’t sleep. We’ve stayed several times before and haven’t experienced this and always enjoyed our stay. If it wasn’t for the light being as bright as a night light all night long…it would have been perfect.

Good stay. Beautiful classic interior and rooms / hallways etc. Really only one problem, it states 'free wifi' however your not allowed this in your room. You must pay £7 a day for wifi in 2024... Apart from that it was a lovely stay, in a lovely place!

The staff were nice and the beds were extremely comfortable. But the room itself was far from clean. Dust absolutely everywhere. Stains on the window seals and all over the bathroom. The plug in the sink doesn't even come out so we had to leave the dirty water in there. The whole place just needs a lick of paint.

Last minute family break.
We decided to book a last minute trip to get out the house after Xmas. Rates were very reasonable so we took the family. We were upgraded to two single room with a view and could actually see the sea! Buffet breakfast filled the kids the next morning despite there being a power cut. We had a wonderful stay. Thank you very much!

New year eve stay
so we were lucky to arrive when reception was quiet and the receptionist was happy and quick. we had a lovely room with sea view cannot fault the room at all very clean and large. the breakfast was ok , but as xmas/new year the kitchen was not always open plus no house keeping, but i manage to get some supplies for the room. we were lucky because my sister booked after me and her room was dreadful, for a double room, plus they could not open the window or turn down the heating so was unbearable for them , plus the bathroom had not been cleaned, she had a terrible experience. Quiet out of season
We went out of season when the hotel was quite quiet. We were upgraded to a fabulous room overlooking the sea and bandstand. Breakfast was plentiful but cold. I'm sure when it is busier it would be fine. The bar was very quiet so no atmosphere. We love Eastbourne and have stayed at a lot of hotels there. The Cavendish is one of the best.
