This was the sketchiest place I've ever stayed. It's been a long time since I feared for my life at a hotel. First, if you need to call there, good luck. Took me 30 calls over 6 hours to get someone to answer the phone.
I got in after midnight on a Tuesday, navigated through the people loitering outside in front (apparently many people LIVE at this hotel), fought through the smoke and weed smell to find nobody at the front desk. Finally a woman came out who was very nice and apologetic, but she seemed to be in housekeeping rather than the front desk person. She immediately asked me if "all of them" are still out front (they were). It seemed like she was nervous about whatever was going on out front. I asked to get to my room so I could sleep, and she got me a key that opened a door, but the inside lock was on, which freaked me out. I went back down and she said "Oh somebody's in there" and proceeded to tell me about problems with the system. She found me another room that was different, but I just wanted to get in ASAP and lock the door, so I was fine with it.
The woman who helped me was nice doing her best, as was the front desk woman who eventually showed up at my door and offered a discount, so kudos to them. But the hotel itself is populated with full-time residents who you won't want to surround your self with. There's apparently a reputation for incidents here, and the smoke smell is just nasty.
