"Good overall"
Easy access to train and bus. Good location for restaurants. Few blocks away from the lake. Try to take rooms not facing the road as the road is pretty loud especially when an ambulance or police car zooms by......

"Family friendly."
Novotel Geneva Centre was a great experience. Prior to our trip, I emailed Novotel requesting a large room as we have older children. I received a prompt reply& upon check in, the staff accomodated our request plus they kindly gave us an extra roll away bed at no extra charge. Friendly staff & great breakfast to meet everyone's needs, plus Xbox in lobby for kids. We were warned about the red light district a couple of blocks away, but this did not detract from the hotel's many advantages & it seemed to be confined to just a block radius. Also in opposite direction, there were plenty restaurants. Nice Korean bbq right next store as well. Hotel appeared to have mostly families so it was perfect for us!

"Congenial hotel that is well-located."
The staff were especially welcoming, accepting my French with a smile. Lots of Middle Eastern kebab places and little mini markets for snacks and drinks - on a Sunday (not much else is open on Sundays in the rest of the city). The 'ladies' didn't bother me at all; in fact, I found the whole scene intriguing. Given how lively the street was in the evening, my fourth-floor room was exceptionally quiet. The hotel is close to Gare Cornavin (train station) and other public transport. The hotel included a free pass for public transport, which makes the most sense since Geneva is so well networked. The room was very clean; my score of four only refers to their need to clean the chair upholstery. The Old Town (Vieille Ville) is a short tram/bus ride (tram #14, bus #5) from Gare Cornavin. Get off at Bel-Air and walk up the hill. See the Cathedral, interesting shops and art galleries, the town arched gate leading to La Treille (ramp) overlooking the Saleve and Parc des Bastions (giant chess and checkers sets, ping pong and the wall of Protestant martyrs). Plainpalais has open air markets. Go to Place Bourg-de-Four for outdoor cafes, restaurants and specialty shops. There are lots of good restaurants. Upscale stores, including Globus and Manor, are just to the left and right from Bel-Air.

"Great hotel for your money!"
In a city where hotels are outrageously overpriced, the Montbrillant saves the day. In Geneve downtown, all hotels are old and most poorly refurbished, so if you're going to get more or less the same experience out of 3-4 star hotels, why pay more? Specially, when the Montbrillant stood out also, for their family room sizes, unbeatable location, and great service. Room size: our room was big; it fit my wife, daughter, me, and ALL our luggage very well. It even had a kitchenette, which we didn't need, but do recognize comes in very handy for family with small children, or for long stay travelers. Location: not much to say...right in front of Geneve downtown train station; and since, public transportation for guests is free, you'll move around the whole city in minutes. It doesn't get any better than that! Service: 1. Front Desk staff very friendly. 2. Room was serviced very well, specially, considering that we were so beat that night, we actually left the room sometime past 4pm. 3. Food... well, as per my wife (self appointed food critic, and very good at it, by the way) the Vitello Tonato was better than the one she tried at Les Armures (fancy Brasserie in Old Town). We travel a lot, and enjoy all sorts of experiences (expensive and budget); we didn't see any sense in paying those ridiculous hotel prices posted everywhere. We took a gamble on Montbrillant, and ended up very satisfied. Great experience for the price.
