Interesting historic place. Pleasant place to relax and a great base for exploring the Hawke's Bay. Spent 3 nights there, service is good and the staff very helpful. Stayed in the "William Nelson Suite" and we could relax on the verandah or in the grounds with its historic trees.

We had an amazing time staying at Ormlie Lodge. A beautiful room, caring staff - nothing was too much trouble. Tranquil garden to enjoy, peaceful environment.

A beautiful historical house in the countryside. Six rooms decorated differently with ours having beautiful Italian furniture. The staff was wonderful and made arrangements for wine tasting, lunch and dinner with all excellent choices. Anna and Michael are gracious host.

Ormlie Lodge was a pleasant quiet, clean place to stay. The one staff member we saw all weekend was very pleasant and efficient. I can see the gardens were once glorious but are need of some love. Our room which was called Servants, was small, but ok for one night, and no robes, ironing board etc, but the iron was available on request.

Depending on the time of year, some plans such as the Christmas lilies finish late January and take time to feed themselves through their stems and the stems cannot be cut until fully brown, which is an indicator the food from the stem has gone into the bulb. Beautiful historic lodge
The chef and the reception/manager staff are great. The bed was very comfortable and we were cosy despite experiencing a really cold snap of weather.

Perfect Hawke's Bay Getaway
Looking for a place with some charm? Don't even think twice, this place is perfect. Conveniently located between both Napier and Hastings, we could not have asked for a better spot to stay. Delicious breakfast included and great wine list available. The fireplace was a treat in the dreary winter weather. Magnificent gardens. Great hospitality.

One of the nicest places I have ever stayed.
So friendly and accommodating. Dinner service is superb. Nice bar....lovely breakfast is included. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants a unique experience of having a "person" hotel!

Very good. As avid coffee drinkers would have liked a plunger and coffee in room. Black tiles in bathroom very slippy when wet. Staff really helpful with early breakfast

The staff made us feel welcome from Long before we arrived. The lodge is very beautiful and the setting quite magical. The beds are very comfortable and the rooms are cosy and warm. The bathrooms are very clean and well equipped and the lighting good. The restaurant is very good and the breakfast is tasty and the toast and preserves generous. Location is good only a few minutes from the city.

Fabulous stay in the Bay.
If you like old style, high class living (as we do), then this is a must. Excellent service, great garden setting and attention to detail are all hallmarks of Ormlie Lodge. We had excellent dinner meals in the restaurant, but if food is your thing you should check ahead as the restaurant closes two times a week. Very highly recommended.

Lovely, warm & welcoming
Friendly team who are welcoming & helpful (when you lock yourself out of your room). Some rooms have verandah access to look at the view or read a book. Can stay home at Ormlie for dinner which we did, and had our taste buds tingled with scrumptious food over 3 courses. Next time we will stay for longer!

What a Beautiful Way to Experience the Hawkes Bay
Ormlie is a beautifully restored Victorian Villa with lovely facilities. When we asked for recommendations for touring the Bay, they were extremely helpful and accommodating. We loved our stay!

Saw Ormlie on Luxury Escapes originally but then available dates not suitable. Managed (with Ormlie help) to get wanted dates. Very pleasant arrival greeting. Anna & her staff could not have been more helpful during the stay Good in-house laundry service. Enjoyable dinners with interesting o/seas visitors = all booked x Luxury Escapes. Breakfast quite 'funny''= granola only offered - no standards such as bacon & eggs & assorted cereals but if pressed got hard boiled eggs with toast. All served on good china plates etc = nice touch. Cheese platter in bar good but a wee bit overpriced. Overall impression: a very good place = Recommend !!!!!

Amazing location... a bit outdated accomodation
Amazing lake views from every room on the property! Great launching point to tongoriro National park. Room itself was in need of updating however... carpeting and upholstery old/stained and there were loud banging noises coming from the pipes every time we flushed the toilet. Could also do with screen doors on the balcony to keep out the insects.

They have addressed previous complaints about inadequate breakfasts. We were served Muesli with fruit, then toast with marmalade and jam. All in keeping with the period ambiance. Bed a little hard for us, but some people like that.

A Haven in Hawke's Bay
We enjoyed our stay at Ormlie Lodge tremendously. It is a lovely building with an intriguing history. Our balcony room was clean and very comfortable. It was fitted out in a style to match the house, and provided us with all the important hotel offerings. The staff were all very helpful, polite, efficient and friendly, and nothing we asked for was too much trouble. Everybody seemed to go out of their way to make our stay memorable. The breakfast included in the room rate was simple and all that we wanted most of the time. If we felt like something extra there was more-or-less anything we could want. Dinner was always tasty and of high quality. If we wanted an adjustment to something (one of us does not eat meat) it was always readily accommodated, with helpful suggestions. Ormlie Lodge became our comfortable country retreat in Hawke's Bay, close to the bustle of Napier and Hastings and. handy for vineyards and great views. A lovely place to return to in the evenings.

Grandeur and excellence - what an amazing place!
My husband and I stayed at Ormlie for one night during oct, the grounds where an amazing place to stretch our legs, the guest services team was faultless and the house and its history where intriguing. The restaurant has food to die for, I didn't want to take the last mouthful - simply because it was my last! The dessert YUM!

HOME ALONE
The staff member whom looked after me in the evening was very good and my meal was very nice - however, as a female traveling alone I did not really enjoy the experience as I was the only one in the lodge overnight - no staff at all. There is apparently somebody whom lives in the cottage "behind the lodge" but I was not given any idea as to how I would contact them, where the cottage "actually" is, the person's name etc so although my room was comfortable I did not sleep well at all. Also at check in I was greeted with "are you intending to stay for dinner because I have given the chef the night off, - but if you want to its no problem I'll tell the Chef to stay" - so I did feel bad but I had already invited a friend to dine with me so I did ask for the Chef to stay. My final gripe was with breakfast - I was very pleased when I booked as breakfast was included in the room rate - however as was explained to me the next morning when presented with the breakfast menu - only the top two options are "complementary" - really complementary, I thought I had "paid" for this as part of my room rate. Anyway my two "complementary" option were "toast or porridge" - I opted for toast. On a positive note The grounds are lovely and had the weather been warmer I would have enjoyed sitting on the lovely balcony outside of my room.

Bed great, breakfast great, room clean and overall building and grounds very well maintained. The staff were excellent and went out of their way to look after us. Asked about places to eat and not only got recommendations which all turned out to be good but they printed off top 100 restaurants in NZ list and we used for rest of trip. Chief explained how to cook rhubarb one morning when we asked and we have started cooking it at home. When the test was on TV they set up a TV in common area so everyone could watch live. (TV in room but no fox to get live view).

The perfect getaway
Everything was perfect in this classic small hotel in a former estate. Every need was anticipated and fulfilled with great friendliness. Most spectacular was the dinner served to guests (and other visitors, I think). The chef and team prepare and present world class food with a small, but well selected wine list.

Stunning property - highly recommended
Our stay at Ormlie Lodge was one of my favourite parts of our visit to New Zealand. The lodge is stunning, both outside and in, and whilst it is a grand place, it also felt very comfortable and homely. The rooms are beautifully done and the bathroom was very modern. Don't let the antique furnishings fool you, there were plenty of modern conveniences such as free wi-fi, large TV, and enough power points (a problem I found in other accommodation). There was also lovely historical touches - some of the books in our room were over 100 years old, and the fireplace would have been wonderful in winter. I found the bed a bit uncomfortable (hard), but that could be personal preference. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, and I felt special staying at the lodge. It's about 20 minutes from Napier, but definitely worth the extra travelling time. I would definitely stay here again, and move in permanently if I lived in New Zealand and could afford to do so!

Beautiful guest lodge.
We had a exceptional stay at The Ormlie lodge: * superbly renovated and is absolutely stunning. Very comfortable beds and the size of the rooms are * Staff are so friendly and helpful. * Food is amazing!! I cannot recommend this hotel anymore!
