After looking at pictures on the hotel website, we had high expectations of Ram Pratap Palace. The beautiful exterior of the building and inner courtyard did not disappoint - it definitely looked like a palace; the location and view from the roof terrace over lake Fateh Sagar were also very picturesque. However, the bedrooms were a bit of a let down. Although clean and spacious, the rooms were quite cold, dark and not very cosy. We visited in December when the weather was quite cold in the mornings and evenings. We were only provided with clean sheets and pillow, covered by a rather old, musty blanket, which we didn't really want to use - so had to wear lots of layers to bed instead! There was no heating in the room either, only AC. One plus point was the shower, which was excellent, with plenty of hot water.
The restaurant - which is actually outside and across the road from the hotel - had very good food, and a beautiful garden overlooking the lake, which would be perfect on warmer evenings.
We were woken every morning at 7.30 by the soothing sounds of a musician playing the shehnai outside the breakfast area, which was a nice touch. The breakfast buffet was ok, with a selection of Indian dishes, toast, eggs. On the last day we were checking out very early, and the Reception staff were kind enough to offer an early light breakfast if we wanted. The staff were very helpful throughout and were always on hand whenever we needed anything.
