Historic building in a perfect location. Friendly staff and a great value. At the delicious buffet breakfast, I enjoyed looking out of the huge windows to the lovely park in front of the hotel.

Within walking distance.
Just need a room for the night. Hopefully one near the old town. Perfect. Not new hotel, but clean and practical. Definitely within walking distance of the main old town. If you are coming by train - may be worth a taxi ride.

Tired hotel, and "we-don't-care" service
The hotel is perfectly livable but could use a refresh. Flooring, furniture, bathrooms all look like they've been around the block a few times. Our room also had that distinct smell of smoking once having been allowed. But here's where we got screwed. Checked into our Premium room, with a clearly pregnant wife and a 5 year-old. It was a Saturday. Around midnight music started being audible, and from 1am the level of noise woke us all up. This was coming from a nightclub situated in the same building. Went downstairs and told I couldn't sleep. "Is it because of the music?" was the reply. WHO ACCOMMODATES A FAMILY TO SLEEP ON TOP OF A NIGHTCLUB, KNOWINGLY? We got a new room which was smaller. In the morning I was charged for the Premium one we couldn't sleep in. I complained and left my email address, heard nothing back. Go at your own risk.

Everything was generally fine. The circumstance I liked the most was the location of the hotel. The city center is really few meters away. As ethnic Russian, I also enjoyed the presence of the monument of Barclay de Tolly* in front of the hotel :). Staff at the reception was friendly, breakfast (especially porrige) was delicious, beds were comfortable, ventilation quiet. The hotel itself is situated in a historical building, what makes a cozy 'old-fashioned' atmosphere. The only negative remark I would have concerns a bit untidy water tap at the bathroom. And I also should say that the parking meter in the hotel's patio is quite small (up to three cars may be safely parked). To summarize, the hotel is worth its money and is worth staying in. __________ *Russian military commander of German-Scottish origin, one of the heads of Russian army during the Napoleon wars in the 19th century.

A bit disappointing
I have stayed in the Barclay before. The location is good and it has a bit of history but it is getting shabby and could do with a bit of modernising. I arrived early and despite the fact that the hotel had very few guests was not able to get my room until 2pm. The room faced the back and was quiet. There seemed to be very little staff. When I went to breakfast the next morning, there was no staff to be seen, just 4 people sitting down so I just helped myself to a typical but ordinary European breakfast. Eventually someone came and I gave my room number. The staff were helpful when needed but as I said, there were few of them. Next visit I will stay somewhere else.

Oh boy! Former Red Army barracks!
Centrally located and kind of odd, Barclay is allegedly a former Soviet army barracks... and even if that's not true, it certainly feels like one. Which is not to say uncomfortable, just... stern and spartan. This is an efficient, basic accommodation, not some kind of decadent western experience for people who actually use words like "luxe" in sentences. True: there is one key per room which you must leave at the desk when you go out, but also true: desk staff always had it ready in hand when we came back in.

Thank You for staying in Barclay Hotel! Yes, You're right, from 1944 to 1992 it was the Headquarters of the Red Army. There's still some nostalgic vibe in the house. The location is in the city center and all the main sightseeing places are very close! We’re looking forward to having You again as our guest!

There is a strip club next door and it is pretty noisy even at 2 o'clock at night.

Okay but faded glory
We have been using the Barclay for 15 years and unfortunately it is not what it was. We really miss the breakfast which was superb. The restaurant is now sub contracted to a bar and breakfast is at best adequate. But it still has character and the wonderful lift.

Beautiful surroundings, helpful staff
Overall, we had a lovely stay in Tartu. The one drawback, was that for 2 days there was no water pressure in the bathtub. There was no cold nor hot water. Since my daughter was training with the Esto football team - this was not good. But, on the last day, we both were able to enjoy hot showers.

Kelpo hotelli hyvällä sijainnilla. Oven lukon kanssa oli ongelmia. Huone 39 sisäpihan puolella. Selvisi, että sisäpuolella olevaa nappia ei saakkaan painaa vaan ovi lukkiutuu ilman sitäkin normaalisti. Lukko silti joka kerta huoneeseen mennessä jäykkä. Aamiainen oli erittäin pieni. Leipää leikkelettä, juustoa ja kurkkuja. Halutessaan keittivät puuroa. Joinain aamuina on kuulema isompi ns. buffet aamiainen. Huone oli kylmä sinne mennessä mutta verhojen takaa löytyi tehokas sähköpatteri joka lämmitti huoneen mukavan oloiseksi. Verhot piti tokin patterin edestä nostaa ikkunalaudalle. Naapurissa muutama klubi joista ei nyt mitään ihmeitä huoneeseen kuulunut. En tiedä toimivatko täydellä teholla. Sänky erittäin mukava. Menisin tähän hotelliin uudelleen.

OK but not for those who value good night sleep
Old but good value for money. Downtown hotel so all restaurants and services are just around the corner. Dogs were very welcome. Parking spots were limited and bit hard to find. If you like to sleep at night, this is not the hotel for you. Next door night club music is very loud and party sounds from streets can be heard very late. Otherwise ok.

Keskitason hotelli, joka sijaitsee lähellä vanhan kaupungin keskustaa. Huoneet ovat hyvin varustellut. Huoneiden värimaailma voisi olla hiukan valoisampi. Huone vaihdettiin kun kassakaappi ja oven lukko eivät toimineet. Virolaiseen tyyliin hotellin johto ei kuitenkaan vaihtanut huonetta parempaan, vaikka aikaa kului aika paljon. Muutoin palvelu ihan hyvää.

Hyä sijainti ja etenkin vallihaudan puolella hiljaiset huoneet. Moottoripyörän saimme sisäpihalle ilmaiseen parkkiin ja sieltä oli kätevä siirtyä vastaanottoon. Suihkussa hyvät vesipaineet ja lämmintä vettä riittää.
