I recognized the brand (Holiday Inn Express), it seemed in a good location and they accepted foreign passports - it was not just a hotel for locals carrying a Chinese ID card. With this in mind we booked and we had certain expectations in mind.. not high expectations but we were looking forward to a decent stay,
From the disorganized front lobby, no dinner options, hard to get to with no real designated pedestrian paths... it was not ideal but the price was good so we overlooked those comforts.
As soon as we opened the door to the room it was over, The smell of mold and old carpeting was overwhelming and it was tough to even enter the room, the walls were cracked and plaster was crumbling off them, the smell of smoke was everywhere including the sheets and pillows even though this was deemed a non smoking room. Even the two small water bottles of complementary water (the tap water is labeled as not potable) were already opened and not filled to the top. I called to change rooms and I was told there was no other option available, it was late at night and the end of a very long trip but staying in this room and exposing myself and my young child and small family to these conditions was not an option. Long story short, we were not upgraded but moved to a different floor where the conditions were better but still below expectations, It was good enough to just get through the night and vouch to never again come anywhere near this hotel, The next morning, the free breakfast was ,
