The reception staff were super helpful before and during our stay, advising us how to get to the hotel from the nearest train station (and recommending a cab company since they needed to be ordered in advance). We were warmly welcomed and super pleased with our rooms, which were beautiful, modern, well thought-out and very comfortable. The lounge areas were cozy and reflected the historic building that houses the hotel. Our dinner in the peaceful courtyard linking the hotel with its adjoining restaurant was delicious, and the service friendly. The breakfast buffet next morning was extensive and included cook-your-own soft-boiled eggs and the best croissants, plus (house-made?) lox salmon. The only downside was that the hot weather required us to sleep with our windows open. Unfortunately, this subjected us to the noise from the restaurant kitchen as the staff finished tidying up after closing. If we'd been able to keep our windows closed, it wouldn't have been an issue. Other than that, I can't say enough good things about this delightful hotel.

Right outside of the gates of the fontevraud abbey,good service and selection of food open all day,35degrees on are visit so hotel very warm especially on 2 nd floor ,water ,fan,and light sheet supplied for sleeping,car parking right on site,and free.

Beautiful hotel. Shame no kettle and tea making facilities not in room. No plug near mirror to do hair except in bathroom. Restaurant next door excellent. Very comfy bed.

Escape in the Loire Valley
Great location for visiting vineyards in the Loire Valley. The room was comfortable and had character. There was a small pool on-site with lovely gardens / flowers. The restaurant served very high quality food and English was spoken throughout.

Amazing couple of nights at Hostellerie La Croix Blanche. Beautiful location on a lovely little typically French square with outdoor tables. Perfectly placed for day trips to near by chateaux and towns. Had dinner at the hotel restaurant both nights and the food was absolutely exquisite and astonishingly good value for money. Would highly recommend staying here for the food alone. 10/10 visit.

Stayed for 1 night with my husband & two frends. Overnight stop to break the journey home to England from the Dordogne. Our room was no 19 & ok apart from the toilet not flushing properly but our friends had to change their room as their shower did not work at all. The rooms are a bit dated & could do with a facelift ! On the other hand, we ate in the hotel restaurant that night & the food was exceptionally good. €29 for 3 fantastic courses . So I would definitly eat there again.

I suppose that if you were not aware that there are vintage themed rooms in the hotel you can consider 'the room dated'. The technical inconvenience you described was solved the next working day, both shower and flushing mechanism. A bientot au restaurant!

Nice hotel great stop over, our room was ground floor and next to a private dining room that were celebrating! Fortunately we were so tired we just crashed . Restaurant does not cater for vegetarians despite asking they could only manage a green salad for dinner.

This is an excellent hotel!
This hotel is perfectly located for visiting the Fontevraud Abbey and surrounding area. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The hotel is clean, service excellent. I highly recommend it!

Lovely hotel, friendly, quiet and well situated.
Friendly staff who all spoke English well. Well situated next to the abbey which is well worth a visit. Room was clean and quiet, but had no tea making facilities. Car parking was behind hotel and initially difficult to find. Restaurant served excellent food. Would return without hesitation.

The machine that would check you in rejected three Credit Cards; all of which were good. This required me to call the owner that had us wait ten more minutes. He was good and took care of the problem, but none of this would have e been required if his machine had worked.
What a shame you didn't mention anything about your stay and your room. Your review only reflects the problem at check in..

Rooms were VERY dull! The first one we were shown was a very dull dark brown and had very little natural light. It was also stiflingly hot. To get more natural light we had to upgrade, which, as it was a fairly pricey hotel anyway, was not what we were looking to do. Our 'upgraded' room turned out to be above a store room which staff used, quite noisily, as late as 23.00 and as early as 6.30am, a bit of a pain. The breakfast was ok, but they had to go out and buy extra croissant every morning, which seemed a bit daft. Evening meal was very good on both times we went there.

When we upgrade a guest we show several rooms to choose from. Sorry that the room you chose was not what you expected. Charlotte would have happily changed your room, if only you had asked... As far the croissants go... we use the local bakery for real French fresh 'viennoiseries'. Some guests like them so much that we have to go and get additional supplies at the bakery shop 30 seconds away...

Good hotel in lovely setting.
Stayed here for two days . Ideal location for cycling the Loire. Set in a picturesque courtyard. Not sure when we approached hotel car park as you drive through a housing estate, but when you walk out of front of hotel we were pleasantly surprised. Didn't eat in hotel cycled down to Montersareau which was ideal for us. Breakfast good though. Also had a pool which we needed as it was really hot when we stayed so ideal to use at end of day.

Thank you for these compliments! The car park can be a bit tricky to find I agree, the signs Unesco uses are too small but unfortunately we are not allowed to change them. (But as soon as you approach our historic buildings all that is left behind you! Glad you enjoyed your stay!)

Perfect location - just across the square from the entrance of the abbey. Lovely room (we upgraded to a superior room and it was very spacious and comfortable). Nice breakfast.
The small surcharge we ask for a superior room is definitely worth it. So pleased to read you enjoyed it!

Lovely hotel by the abbey
We loved this clean, upscale hotel, located in a charming hilltop town, just across from the historic Fontevraud Abbey in the center of the town square. Rooms were very spacious with a lovely shower, and were extremely clean. Great location, ideal for visiting Chinon and Saumur, but far enough away from bigger cities that you could feel like you were in a remote town. We ate at the hotel for breakfast one morning and for dinner one night, both of which were very nice. There is convenient parking located just behind the hotel. Highly recommended.

NIce little hotel away from the crowds.
Staff was really helpful and friendly. We loved our room that was recently renovated.
All our rooms look out over the inner courtyard with plenty of flowers in spring and summer. Our superior rooms are a bit 'hit' and much appreciated by our guests.

Attractive location and nice rooms although ours had to be changed as we asked for twin beds. Helpful staff but waitress service, ie tea and coffee not from a machine, for breakfast would have been nice. Would be happy to stay there again.
Your overall comments and marks (4 out of 5) are much appreciated. We have added tea pots for guests who would like to make their own tea with fresh boiling water. A large selection of teas is available too.

The food is really good, sitting outside beside the town square watching the world go slowly by is the real French experience. The staff are friendly and helpful and make the stay a pleasure. The rooms are small but totally adequate. The abbey of Fontevreaud is across the square and a visit to it would fully justify a trip even if there were not an English King and two Queens at rest inside. Plenty of parking

Sensitively modernised Logis in Loire Valley
Ours was a two night stop in Fotevraud on the way south. We booked one of the more comfortable rooms and ate breakfast and the evening meal there. The hotel has been modernised in a very sensitive and smart way around an old 17th century building and is right in the centre of Fontevraud, just opposite the abbey complex, which is the main tourist attraction and very worthwhile to visit. Our room was very comfortable, without being oversized, and the staff were most efficient and polite. The hotel is a 'three cooking-pot' Logis, and, as such one would expect the food to be high standard. We were not disappointed! The breakfast was substantial and varied - all of a 'continental type', ie. a combination of the French style (croissants/baguettes/fruit) and German/Swiss coldmeat/cheese/smoked fish dishes. They do cereals, but not the full English breakfast (that is not a criticism however, just a fact). The restaurant meals in the evening featured a good value (about 22 Euro if I remember rightly) menu with good choices. The food was well cooked and presented in a modern style - the restaurant seems well patronised by people not staying at the hotel, so best let them know if you want to eat there (though they seemed to be coping during our stay). All in all, we would thoroghly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Basic hotel, nothing special
The room was clean but lacked any charm. The hotel receptionist kept us waiting for 20 minutes while she tried to figure out a mistake on another couples' billing - she seemed unable to do basic math, and although there was another staff person milling around, we simply had to wait. When we asked her for directions to the next major town, she didn't seem to have heard of it. Overall there was nothing special about this hotel.

I would like to reply eventhough your review is quite old. Expedia now gives hoteliers the chance to reply to (very) old review which we appreciate. The entire proprerty was renovated and refurbished in the winter of 2014/2015 and much charm has been added! Please read some more recent reviews for updates on our hotel, restaurant and the more lively town.

Easy to find. Large property. Lovely area. Reception staff nice - we accepted the first room offered. Nice surroundings. Booked evening meal - competed with group. It took a long time to be served ( 3 hours) but we chatted and enjoyed he wine and food. The Swedish group was OK and they helped themselves to some of our breakfast buffet as they left their own section of the restaurant. All in all it was a good visit.

Great location. Free WiFi!!!!!
Wifi access useless. Managed 6 minutes in attempts from 7pm to 12 pm and again from 7.30 am. Asked reception but very nice but unable to help. Essential for planning journey and booking hotels. Cheaper hotels throughout our journey through France have all done much better with Wi Fi. Secure bike parking requested was in car park with no fixing points for padlock as shed full of hire bikes. Otherwise OK.

Wonderful hotel
Found the hotel to be better than I expected. The staff were very friendly & welcoming, the rooms fairly basic but very clean and the restaurant staff, service & food was wonderful. Town in in a reasonably good spot for sightseeing & wine tasting if you have transport. Would definitely stay there again if going to that area.

Bonito pero con un problema
La estancia ha sido buena, el hotel es bonito, limpio y el servicio muy agradable. El único -y gran- problema es el mal olor del baño. Insoportable. No por falta de higiene sino por un problema de cañerías (me imagino). Es una razón por la que no volveríamos a hospedarnos allí.

However we are proud to serve a large selection: hot beverages, fruit juices, home-made jams, local produce, home-smoked salmon, sparkling wine, cereals, muesli, fruit & nut selection, eggs (2 styles), fresh fruit salad, fromage frais, several types of cheese, ham and cold meats, pure butter croissants, bread, toasts and biscuits and fresh baguettes.
