I love the vibe of The Phoenix. Like a modernized relic from the 60's-70's. It comparable to the McMenamin's properties in Oregon. It was clean and the staff are pleasant and knowledgeable about local restaurants. I'll be going back.
This was an oasis in the tenderloin. Property is clean, staff was amazing (especially Orlando), nice linens, onsite restaurant and bar, loved the hotel. The neighborhood does have a lot of people hanging out getting high on the surrounding streets. No one bothered us when we walked to a great soul food restaurant named Brenda’s. Overall it was a great place to stay and the onsite secure parking with in and out privileges was a real plus.
Every stay is perfect. Orlando the office manager makes us feel at home every time, even remembering our names. Auggie the restaurant manager also remembers us by name as even recommends new drinks we may like. The rooms are always clean, the pool is always at a perfect temperature and the staff always friendly. Well done again! We will be back soon.
This place was great! Unfortunately I had a medical emergency and couldn't stay the entire night. Friendly staff, beautiful outside. Everything was super clean and comfortable. No coffee maker or refrigerator though. But since I didn't stay the whole night I didn't need coffee.
full of homeless people all around the property doing drug, police cars dealing with situation outside the parking lot. incredible

It seems like the hotel’s primary function is an event space. Very few people were staying at the hotel - felt like a ghost town, but the night I stayed there was a large corporate event with music blasting right outside my room for hours - finally they moved inside at 10pm so that the sound wasn’t intolerably loud - but it was still very loud until 11pm. Don’t stay here if you plan to sleep.
Don’t be afraid of the neighborhood, as soon as you enter the property you forget all about it. The pool is a perfect 87 degrees year round, the food and drinks are perfect and the staff is always friendly!
Super cool place with a lot of rock & roll history. Looks like something out of a Wed Anderson movie! Really friendly staff at reception. Rooms are quirky- they’re not super modern but great for a 2 star.
Only watch out is the hotel itself is in a dodgy part of town so would suggest leaving / coming back to the hotel in a cab if at night. But there’s security and you’re totally safe at the hotel itself!
Hands down my favorite place to stay in the city. Every aspect was awesome. The front desk (Orlando) was extremely helpful. We will absolutely be back, and I’m getting a robe next time.
Staff was polite, respectful, cool to talk to, & went above and beyond to make sure that we were comfortable in SF. Sometimes, there are a couple of strange people around the parking lot but no one broke into our car & the Uber drivers were able to easily find us when needed. I can see us coming back here in the near future!
Loved the hotel. All the staff were very friendly and welcoming. The area around the hotel is full of homeless and very dirty but I liked the staff so much I will be staying here again.
This is a classic San Francisco venue, the home of weekend DJ pool parties for decades.
This hotel is NOT for everyone. It's more of 3-star motel. But the people are friendly, the staff really cares, the bar is excellent, the heated outdoor pool is lovely, and free safe parking is included. Hopefully you'll hit a weekend party.
The place is really cool; we've seen shows there and expected the chic veneer. We were so beyond ourselves at the generosity and kindness of the staff. They are genuine people and made staying there such a pleasure.
The Phoenix is a brilliant gem of a hotel in a very shady neighborhood (the Tenderloin). Keep in mind this is not a luxury hotel - limited housekeeping service, the bathroom is dated, no room service. Staff is friendly and helpful. The pool is warm and sparkling clean. And the red light above the bed makes for a super fun vibe.
The neighborhood is rough, but the Phoenix location is in good proximity to many things. The bar/dining room on site is only open Thurs-Sat, which is a bummer, but the bar across the street (Emperer Norton's Boozeland) is a good place to hang and get a drink.
We had a great experience with the hotel. Cute retro/music-themed decor fits great since we stayed there to go to a concert at the Great American Music Hall which is super close. The onsite restaurant and bar is fabulous. The pool and patio area look like a blast and provide a nice view even in December. The staff were very frindly and watchful for the guest's comfort and safety. The downfalls are that it's in the Tenderloin area with a high homeless population but if you walk over to Polk street it's better. Also, make sure you get a Banh Mi Sandwich from Saigon Sandwich across the street!! The hotel itself is old and it shows inside the rooms but it didn't have a dirty feel to me. I'll go back for sure.
This place is definitely a diamond in the rough. The place is spotless and hip, and the people who work here are righteous. Too bad the neighborhood is not as good.
