“Great hotel, fantastic Expedia price.”

We stayed here for one night as we were passing through the area. We booked based on price and availability but were very pleasantly surprised with the quality and size of our room. We would have expected to pay much more fr something with two huge beds, basic kitchen facilities and such a nice restaurant/bar. A minor gripe was that there was no a/c but the ceiling fan kept us cool despite it being about 25 degrees outside. Reception staff were very friendly and helpful. The location is about 1.5km from the lake, a pleasant walk from our point of view. Would definitely stay here again.

“great value hotel”

very good size rooms, and a handy but quiet location. acts as a great base for exploring the region, and good value for money, even for this area.

“Superb hotel !”

Excellent hotel, fantastic room and we had a great stay at The Rydges. Huge bedroom and super comfy bed. Spotlessly clean and great views over the racecourse and Lake Rotorua. Whilst we only ate dinner on one of the two nights we stayed at this hotel, the quality was superb. Buffet breakfast had a good choice and whilst not quite hot enough on the first morning, the second morning it was fine. Would definitely recommend, worth every penny/dollar !

“Good Hotel”

Fine Hotel if a little out of town and importantly away enough from the volcanic vents that emit the interesting smells! Rotorua smells its part of its unique nature, good service all round the food both breakfast and evening is of a high standard.

“Big Hotel”

This hotel was well located for exploring the surrounding area with exceptional parking. Yes, it's a little dated with noisy plumbing, but overall was a nice place to stay

“Large Comfortable Rooms”

This hotel had one of the largest bedrooms I have ever stayed in. Service was faultless. Buffet breakfast very good.

“Rotorua visit”

The standards have declined since our last stay (2 yrs ago). The dinning area still has water leaks. The sheets a linen are now no longer ironed, so it isnot certain if the bed has been changed nice the last occupant. The rooms are not being cleaned illy, as significant dirt nd dust is present on the arm of cairs and other surfaces. The food is high priced for only average standards. Overall he hotel has gone down significantly over two years.

“not quite up to expectations”

the hotel did not quite meet our expectations for a 4 star hotel, the check-in and check-out could be much improved beyond a hello, here's your key and bye. the furnishings and fittings could be refurbished or cared for more. the restaurant staff at breakfast were good.

“A depressing miserable hotel”

Ok the Foyer is fine but then it goes downhill big time. Our room was miserable grubby and desperately in need of being refurbished. The cooling fan was filthy as were the windows. There was a table but anything we put on it stuck to the surface (yuck!). The canteen (you could not call it a restaurant) was equally grubby - the fabric seats filthy and the walls clearly have not been painted this century - we watched the tables being cleaned and could understand why the hotel was in the horrible state it was - a cursory wipe with a dry J cloth brushing crumbs onto the floor and smearing everything else over the table surface. I did complain to the manager and was informed later that the housekeeping staff had been reprimanded - I truly hope this is the case. On the plus side there is an excellent bar/restaurant across the road which I can thouroughly recommend.
