My family had a horrible experience at this place. There was no air conditioner. The hotel is dirty and lots of mold. The bathroom had no lighting and no place to put your soap or shampoo. The smell was terrible and the beds seemed broken. The ceiling seemed that had animals crawling all the time. I have never been to a place like that. The location was good but not worthy to try. I DO NOT recommend to anyone.

Front desk guys were excellent. Had two flights of stairs to reach the lift. My brother is in a foldable wheelchair and they carried it up and down each time for him. Very helpful with directions and calling taxis for us. Would differently stay here again. Breakfast was typical European style.

Location is great for being central to all the sites of Rome and is within easy walking distance of Termini station. Access to the hotel is via Hotel Paris which is round the corner to the Main Street. Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. There is a good breakfast selection. Overall this is a fabulous budget hotel and wouldn’t hesitate booking again.

The good parts: The hotel has a great location. The room was spacious and the cleanliness was okay. The woman in the front desk was very kind and brought up the overall experience for us. As for the not so good parts: The AC didn’t work - it made a lot of noise, but could not bring down the temperature and the cleaning staff despite being tipped every day, would turn off the power for our fridge, so that our groceries would spoil. We also came home with a lot of back pain because the beds are really really hard, but that’s pretty normal for hotels. We were overall happy with our stay, but would not choose the same hotel again mainly because of the AC.

The hotel was is a good location, but it really needs refurbishing. The lift was ridiculously small and had to be manually opened and closed. The rooms needed to be painted and decorated and the building itself was shared with two other hotels. All a bit strange.

There is no way this is a 3* hotel and the picture opposite does not represent the real hotel. Staff indifferent, room was small and dull (316), not sure when the pillows were last changed or cleaned, bathroom tiny, mould on bathroom ceiling, aircon not working, tiny lift that serviced two hotels, need I go on. Expedia should in no way provide this hotel as as option. Has anyone actually visited!

It was nothing like the pictures that they had on your website. Air-conditioning did not work and we had 95° weather. It was extremely dirty and the hotel is in horrible conditions. We tried to change but Expedia did not help us do so. Will never rent a hotel through Expedia again. I even offered to send pictures of the condition of hotel. They have a picture of the lobby with a nice fish tank. In reality the water is completely green and everything is filthy. We even found cockroaches in the bathtub.

read the reviews!!! don't normally read reviews on hotels. After staying here I will be from now on. Been travelling for the last six months. This was easily the worst hotel iv stayed at by metric of value for cost. Won't be using Expedia again after this experience ether. To sum up. The staff are rude and unhelpful. The hotel is a really old building, this means things like plumbing (shower, toliet), electrical (door, aircon) and the lift (doesn't work half the time - enjoy those five flights of stairs) are all dodgy as can be. Do yourself a favour and keep looking, there are plenty of other hotels to choose from. Super regret having paid in advance on this one.

The bed/mattress hasn't been changed probably since the hotel opened? The frame itself moves all over the place, not secure, horrible!! No stopper in the bathtub, and no hot water. Checked out the next day, manager did not apologize and had the nerve to charge us for 2 nights with taxes!!

Staff was very friendly. We got in very late and was told the hotel was full even though we had a reservation on Expedia, we did make the day of, I guess there was a mistake and they still made room for us. The man at the front desk was very nice. Beds were very hard and pillows were super flat. We only stayed here because It was close to the train station and it was last minute. Wouldn't stay here again especially for the price we paid, but again we had last minute change of plans so we booked this the day of.

.BEWARE!! From reading past reviews the no air conditioning issue seems to be a regular event. They blame it on a building issue, even though the units appear to be individual units. I am not sure they ever work. If you get stuck in a small dormitory room facing one of the busiest streets in Rome, you cannot possibly open the windows due to the noise at night. Two desk managers were rude and did not care at all, just putting us off. We had to eat the last two nights of our stay and find a better hotel.. We asked for credit and they looked at us as if we were kidding. There are so many better hotels in Rome, do yourself a favor and find one. Expedia should be ashamed to associate with this group.

We arrived and it was 28 out and I called because the ac wasn't working. We were told that it's a building system and it had been shut off, even though there were individual ac units in the rooms. Staff did nothing to accommodate. The place was clean and close to the train station which was good. Wifi could barely load an email.

great location. poor hotel.
we chose this hotel as it was very close to the location of a friend's wedding. The area is fantastic. Close to the Repubblica metro station and to local bars, supermarket and restaurants. The hotel however is more like a hostel. Awful lift. Mediocre breakfast. There's a McDonald's next door so you'd be better off getting an egg mcmuffin than pay for the dairylea lunchables they serve up at breakfast. Coffee was alright. The maids are fond of knocking on your door quite early and there aren't any do not disturb signs to use. Couldn't open the door fully without it banging off the tv cabinet.

They were completely unwilling to help resolve a booking issue, staff were rude aside from one very charming Italian gent who was only there in a day, wifi didn't work, was moved to a room with a leaky toilet and broken shower, couldn't move again as the floor was booked out by a school party who were incredibly loud all night.

Wayward station rather than hotel for tourists
Unfortunately, the Hotel Repubblica was very disappointing, only made better by the fact that we were more interested in what was outside the building/room than inside. First, the hotel was more like a wayward station for people new to or in transition in Rome. Not many tourists at all. Second through fifth, you don't pass the front desk to get to your rooms so staff was more or less absent, cleanliness was awful (mold in the tiny shower!) though housekeeping did show up daily, the elevator & A/C only worked intermittently, and to top it all off, the picture on Orbitz is not even of the correct building! Finally, we were told that someone would be at the desk to check us out when we left (around 6:00 am on a Tuesday), but no on was there, the door to the front desk was locked, and no one answered the doorbell. I had to slide my keys through a small opening in the sliding doors and hope that was enough for check-out and that I wouldn't get charged for random check-out.

Sink clogged, shower door broken, safe did not work, tv did not work. Asked them to fix it, they fixed the sink and shower and nothing else in 4 days. There were holes in the bedding. Positives- there was hot water and wifi and really close to Termini and Metro.

This hotel should be closed!!!
We stayed 7 days. 4 days was problem with internet connection. Master came just after 3 days to unblock the shower after our complain. TV is showing just some italian programs. Stinky toilet….

Few Struggles
Although the location was great; we had many struggles. The man at the desk charged us more than what his system directed him to. We saw a bed bug the last night of our stay, and my husband could not fit in the shower (he is of medium build). All together the location was tremendous, but next time I will be booking something of higher class!
