“A great off the beat place.”
The hotel was just what it was rated - a 3 1/2 star place. Except for the food, which was wonderful - more like a 5 star. Deliciously prepared and varied from one day to the next. The diving was close to the hotel and great. Snorkeling or swimming was great and right out the back door. The drinking was managed and very available. Great staff.
“Looks better on pictures”
The hotel has a great location and great surroundings however it is older and rooms need a little bit of uplifting. Definitely rooms look better on the pictures. Try to get room upstairs since the ones downstairs are little bit dark. The food was great and varied each day and was very fresh. Service is very attentive and whenever you need them there are there to help you. It is a family resort so those divers that have small children and need to switch they have a great beach to stay with the children. Diving was great however I wished that divemasters would be better of telling people not to touch or walk over coral reef. A lot of times in order to take a picture some divers were ripping off a coral reef nearby and divemaster did not react. It is a really sad picture seeing bunch of divers poking, ripping and putting camera in the mouth of a lobster. I understand that it is all about tipping but I think there is a way of instructing people how to behave under the water, and having a good dive. Somehow divemasters in Mexico and other places that we did dives did not have any problem with that. It is theirs to protect too. Overall we enjoyed our stay because after all you do not stay much in your rooms and outside on Fantasy Island you will find beautiful places to hang out.
“Awesome all-inclusive resort”
We were only on the island one night but we had a blast. The food was OK, but the beach, swim-up bar, and local wildlife were awesome. Our all-inclusive rate included airport pick-up and drop-off, all food, most beverages, and absolutely no unpleasant "additional" surprises that some places hit you with. There's also a free public computer with Internet that you can use in the lobby. All told, it was a great value and exactly what my friend and I needed.
“A Fantasy?”
If you are a dedicated scuba diver, this is the place for you! Crystal clear water, beautiful aquatic life and probably the best coral I've ever seen. As for others, there's a calm and beautiful lagoon at the hotel, and the entire complex is on a separate island. Nice and quiet, especially when the divers leave. The rooms are equivelent to a Hotel 6 stay, the food is so-so, not much choice for all-inclusive. The service personnel were all nice and helpful. Barely any nightlife, not much to do around the island. If I go back to Roatan, will probably go to the North or West sides intead.
“Older hotel in need of restoration”
The hotel is located in a reserve with many trees and animals (monkeys, iguanas, etc). The sea at the hotel is very nice and in just five minutes of swimming you can reach a very beautiful coral reef. The service was quite good and the people of the hotel very polite. BUT... the hotel needs to be restored! The Air Conditioning unit at the room was very noisy (we had a hard time sleeping) and all the furnitures in the room and the hotel were showing their age. If this hotel is renovated I will certainly go back.
“There are similar rates on better hotels.”
Hotel has not maintenance and meals are really bad.
“Excellent scuba diving, hotel not so much”
The hotel was fair. The hotel staff was ok. The food average to below average. The beach was great. The scuba diving was fantastic and the dive shop staff was second to none. Their excursions/tours are limited. The english language is limited.
“Not A Resort”
plz people shop around, it was ok but over priced, food was very very bad.
“It's Seen Better Days”
I had stayed at Fantasy Island several years ago and had a great time. When some friends asked to go to a dive resort on a budget I suggested we go there. Our rooms were large and clean but there was no water pressure at all, the twin beds were saggy and uncomfortable, and the patio door took 2 people to wrestle open. There is new ownership since I was there last. The resort is now being marketed to Europeans and Latin American families on beach holidays. All the divers were put in rooms that were furthest from the dive operation. The dive boats suffered from deferred maintenance and we rarely went to reefs further then 10 minutes out. most of the divers are our boat were experienced and the dive master grew complacent as the week went on. On one dive he forgot to change tanks between dives and ran out of air. There was trash in the water and divers were allowed to wear gloves and touch coral! The food was not great, but good and all things considered it is still the cheapest week of diving you can do in the Caribbean -- just remember, you get what you pay for!
“Fantasy Island I don't think so”
If you are a diver then you will enjoy your stay, but book a dive package because the dive prices are very high. The food was very poor, you had the same choice everyday, something buried in sauce, something greasy, or dry,but always warm the hot food was warm and the cold food was warm. Water sports, 1 kayak, with a broken paddle, vollyball,no ball. The pictures looked great, but don't be fooled....
