Did I upset the elves? I was on my way home from Italy with a stopover in Iceland for 23 hours. I specifically booked a room with a bathtub in the photos near(ish) to the airport. When I arrived, there wasn’t a bathtub- I asked the (very polite) front desk attendant to switch me as I only upgraded for the bathtub and bed size didn’t matter. She searched through the records and the open rooms to try to accommodate me but couldn’t. I tried to get a refund as I had only been in the room for an hour or so, so I could go to another hotel. The room I had was over $120 more for simply a larger bed. She was unable to refund me, but I could tell she wanted to help even if she couldn’t. I stayed, but only because I didn’t have another option. The next morning the shower did have a very strong sulfer smell. Before staying here check the local holidays as the buses don’t run frequently on holidays through the small village. I had to pay $150 for a taxi to the airport (30 minutes). The 3 staff members I met were really nice, but I felt like $220 was extremely overpriced and underwhelming for a king size bed.

Nice hotel with nice staff. Decent breakfast for the price. Not very close to any shopping district but easily accessible through car. There were bus stops just outside of the hotel as well but we didn't use the local transit.

Iceland is gorgeous, but the weather can be uncooperative, so I chose Hotel Viking. I had a triple room and a side view of the water. There is a sauna, hot tub, and breakfast in the hotel and an amazing restaurant with lots of Viking artifacts ten steps away. So if the weather was terrible the entire time, you would still have an authentic Icelandic experience. Hotel Viking was even better than I expected in so many ways. Great staff as well, very accommodating!
