Unlike today’s newer hotels, the room & bathroom were much larger….a very nice change. This was a great hotel, an easy 15-20 minute walk to subway) trains are only minutes away. Can’t say enough good things about the staff. I enjoyed my stay there. And I have to make an amendment to an earlier review when I referred to a woman at the front desk as Isabella. Her name is actually Annabella(hope I got the spelling correct). Thanks for all the great chats, Anabella.

It’s a family owned hotel & their attention to detail & providing good service to their guests is evident. Unlike many of the newer, more modern hotels, the rooms are spacious & very comfortable. The biggest appeal to me is that the hotel isn’t located in the heart of the tourist area.

The people were very friendly and helpful and spoke English as well as me, a Canadian. Metro is a few minutes walk away, but you can easily walk to Centro in about 15-20 minutes.

Short stay in Porto after river cruise
Hotel was probably about 0.5ml from Marques metro stop. No issues on arrival slightly earlier than official check-in and allocated room on third floor. Room was reasonable size, clean, but with limited storage facilities and no safe. Twin beds were basic and not overly comfy but acceptable. Shower was like turning on a tap (no spray) and bathroom became very hot as internal and contained hot water cylinder. Towels were not changed but left to dry for re-use so trying to reduce energy use. Breakfast was reasonable, had to ask for cold milk for cereal as only hot provided. Rest was rolls, ham, cheese and jams. Coffee was a bit stewed and strong with fruit juice available. Check out straightforward with bill as expected, and able to leave luggage for later collection. No close by restaurants found for evening meal but several cafe's for snacks in the area.

Lovely hotel
Lovely hotel! Excellent service, everyone was very friendly. Only a short 30 minute walk to the centre of town. The hotel has a lot of charm and was very clean and in a quiet area. Highly recommended!

Receptionist Annabel was so fiend and helpful. She called the tour agencies to get us booked on Douro Valley tours. The hotel provides good value for the price. It’s about half an hour walk to city center and 5 minutes walk to nearest subway station. We enjoyed staying there.

The hotel has everything, which is necessary. It is basic, but quite comfy. I had to leave at 3.30 in the morning and did not get a chance to have breakfast there. Close to metro, but a bit too far uphill to walk from the river.

The front desk staff was very nice and very helpful. The hotel is clean and the rooms are large. Its close to the subway, but about a 20 minute walk from the old town touristy areas. We were fine with that, but just FYI. We had some issues finding places to eat nearby - there are some cafes and restaurants, but many were closed when we were there.

Easy access to Metro. Staff knowledgeable about tours, such as port cruise up tne Douro for wine tasting, will book it for you. Good Wifi.

when I got there room was smell then I got a new room - thank you for good service normal breakfast - bread ham cheese coffee tea resonable price far from center but ok walk to metro station about 10 min.

Great value for money hotel. Old fashioned but in a nice way. Very friendly staff. Spotless clean bedroom and bathroom. Breakfast basic but does the job. 5 minutes walk to Marques metro station. Very safe area ( as is all of Porto). Thank you!

The hotel is close to the subway station Marques, around 5 mins walk or walk to the old town in 20-30 mins. The receptionists are helpful to provide directions and sightseeing suggestions.... The room is ok, except the blankets, it is the traditional yellowish-brown colour, will be better to upgrade them to the duvet type... I like their breakfast, continental type and the breads are crispy n tasty..

Palanca is about a mile north of the historic centre in a residential area. However, nearby metro station Marquês is only two stops from Trindad. Between the hotel and the metro are a few restaurants and cafes. The hotel is on a one way street which gets rush hour traffic in the evening but not so much in the morning. My room was right at the front and the windows had sound double glazing plus an aluminium shutter that wound down. There were double doors between bedroom and corridor. So in fact I was not disturbed by noise, although I might have been had I wanted to sleep with the window open. The room, bedding and bathroom were clean. My room had its own water heater in the bathroom, so there was no chance of the other guests running off all the hot water. The heating worked when needed. Breakfast was simple but adequate. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful. In summary, there was really nothing to complain about, everything was good or adequate and in particular it offers good value for money compared with city centre hotels. So it would be my first choice for a return visit.

Nice clean older comfortable hotel, 5 minute walk to metro and 20 minute walk into old city of Porto. Lovely helpful people working there, found out about Fado for us and other things that were on in Porto. Good breakfast served quickly in am, and nice to park underground in safe enclosure under hotel.

Large room and close to metro station
Biggest hotel room I've seen in Europe. There was a night stand on each side of the bed, a desk and chair, and still plenty of room to walk around. Breakfast had various yogurts and rolls to choose from and the hotel was just five or six minutes from the metro station. Snack bars and restaurants within one to two blocks. My only complaint would be the noise in the hotel room at night. The elevator is quite loud and you'll hear it each time it is called. I got used to it after a few days though (I stayed there for 6 days).

Room was large and comfortable. Breakfast was decent (nothing special). Hotel was difficulty to get to as it is on a one-way busy street you have one block to cross. We had to drive around the block a couple times. By far the biggest asset to this place is the lady who works at the front desk. She provides you with all information you need to get the best experience in Porto while you are there. Overall we had a good experience and would recommend the hotel to other travelers.

A nice place to stay without any outstanding features apart from the staff. Location and breakfast were both good without being great. It is about a 10 minute walk to the metro. A simple way to improve would be to take a little more care with the rooms. For example, I had a light that didn't work. As stated previously staff were great!

Little ways away from the historic center of Porto, but it was perfect for us -- we had a car and street parking was easy. Breakfast was great, air conditioning and wifi worked perfectly, 24 hour reception was nice since we got in late. Not right in the middle of the action, but a great price for Porto and it was quiet too.
