I've stayed in Calais a lot, but never previously at the Metropol. It is now firmly on my list and I would not hesitate to stay here again. Easy to park on the street outside. If that were full, there is the humongous free sncf car park opposite. Cheery welcome. Thoroughly comfortable room (in fact I overslept). Contrary to some older reviews, the bathroom was excellent and modern. Heating easy to adjust (and a good upvc window). Breakfast was good and the patron kindly rustled up some scrambled eggs for me. Location is mid way between old town and new town, which is v convenient - drinks are best at Le Chill in the old town; my preferred restaurant (well, estaminet) is Le Calice, towards the new town.
