The staff were incredibly friendly, the complimentary breakfast was a lovely touch, and its proximity to major attractions made exploring the city effortless. there were a couple of drawbacks worth mentioning. In the evenings, the surrounding area felt unsafe for walking, particularly when returning from dinner. Additionally, noise levels throughout the day were quite high, which could be disruptive at times.

In a building that was grand in its day but is now « crumblingly photogenic »—but in the courtyard only—which is now the parking lot. Not super easy to find as just had a small sign on the wall. Breakfast service was quite good and the lady serving was nice. The front desk appeared to be unmanned virtually always. Rooms are clean but VERY basic and bathroom had a giant break-your-head-open 8 inch high step up from the bedroom. If you’re on a budget, the location is decent and walkable to most areas of interest but it’s pretty basic and the neighborhood’s kinda grubby. We must have lucked out that someone was at the desk when we arrived as we never saw anyone there at any time thereafter and we would have been up the proverbial creek.

Loved the hotel and staff....was kind of in a rough area untill we walked up a couple blicks and then was awesome in tje midst of everywhere youd want to be....the hotel from the outside was completely deceiving as when u opened tje doors its like stepping into some kinda palace! The room was clean and great and comfy bed and staff was amazing and the free breakfast was really good!

The staff at Ballarò were very accommodating and the breakfast each morning was more than satisfactory. The room was basic but clean. The only downsides were the location and the noise in the hotel. The hotel is located on what appears to be a very run-down street that does not feel safe at night. As for noise, the soundproofing in my room was less than satisfactory and I was awoken on many occasions (including in the early hours of the morning) by loud noises outside in the hall. As a side note, the pillows were not very comfortable but this was not a major issue. Overall, my stay was pleasant.

Excellent location, an easy walk from the train station and the best historical monuments. Rooms are clean and comfortable and the building has historic charm. Breakfast is a great bonus, with yogurt and fruit in addition to the usual patties. Highly recommended as great value for money.

We chose this hotel because it is close to the bus station. To our surprise, we were informed that the room did not have a bathroom and in fact the bathroom was across the hall. This information was not in the room descriptions. How we were supposed to know what "private bathroom" means across the hall. We were shocked. Not worth for its price.

Great location
Nice place very close to everything. Check out the Ballarò market behind the Hoge for all types of food etc. the streets are walkable with a lot of restaurants nearby.

You couldn’t pay me to stay here again!
You couldn’t pay me to stay here again. The hotel made us feel like we were sleeping in a dirty hospital. Words can’t truly describe the smell. Urine and feces masked by the scent of nauseatingly strong incense. The neighborhood is bad with camp of homeless sleeping outside of the gates, piles of feces, and urine stained corners to greet you. The hotel makes you pay in full upon check in which should have been our first red flag. As soon as we saw the room, we tried to check out, but the people at the front desk left and there was no one to speak with (about 15:30). I sent them a message and received a response that the money for the remaining nights would be refunded, but I would need to wait for the staff to arrive at 8am for their breakfast. We stayed the night hoping that we could make the best of it, but the morning couldn’t come soon enough. It’s a few days after we left and my nose still burns from the smell. We spoke with the staff in the morning and were told that the owner will not refund the money. It was so bad that I just decided to leave and accept the loss of money. It felt unhealthy and unsafe to stay here. We are now happily booked at another hotel, and what a difference. Do yourself a favor and do not stay here. There are so many better places.

I was in a disabled person room with blocked windows and panic hardware on the door. Very institutional and depressing. Shower drains into the washroom area and two towels were needed to stop the water flow. Just fix the flooring! Very small sign to show where hotel was. Area outside hotel very dirty

When you google the place it comes up as the 3rd most dangerous place to not go to in Palermo. The bathroom was private, but down the hall. It is on the second floor without an elevator or help with luggage. The lady at breakfast was very nice and breakfast was good. It was very clean.

The hotel sign is about 9 x 11 and impossible to see. I really struggle with this review because I’m sure the owners are doing the best they can but Ballaro is just a rough area in Palermo unless you are use to big city living. We are not. They area has garbage everywhere. The hotel requires you walk upwards of 45 steps with luggage. Before that the huge wooden doors required a code we were never provided. The rooms are small. Ours overlooked a noisey and somewhat daunting alley. Others may think it’s fine, my wife was completely unsettled.

This hotel's best thing is to close to the central station. Other than that, I feel like I am staying B&B. There's no a front person all the time. I have to wait for him to check in till he comes. The front is the 2nd floor, I don't know how to open the gate to enter the property. There is no elevator. I can recommend this hotel if you travel light. But not for me for the next time. Sorry.

We booked for two nights but only stayed for one - due to Palermo as a city being too noisy for us. The aircon unit was very noisy. Lots of stairs to get to the room but the staff were really helpful and breakfast was good. Good location for the sites and station.

We got to the hotel and were let in after banging on the door for 10 minutes I was then advised my room had no ensuite bathroom and in fact the bathroom was across the corridor. This was not evident at the time of booking and the pictures did not elude to this major detail Staff were useless and in fact seemed to be laughing at our dissapointment at the situation. We decided to move to a different hotel since the attitude of staff made me realise that they didn't care whatsoever about our concerns about 2 women having to use the bathroom late at night outside of the room. I was shocked at the staffs complete lack of desire to offer any solution to customers who had paid for their booking in full. Completely useless staff who showed lack of professionalism and no regard for customers needs or how to offer any kind of solution.

That was really great to stay in an ancient Palermo house which was built centuries ago. Room was clean, mattress comfortable. Breakfast are served with traditional Sicilian food.

This property is located in a historical building that used to be a palace, the area where the rooms are have been modernized to offer comfortable rooms with private bathrooms and air conditioners. They offer a nice Italian breakfast every morning. The staff goes above and beyond to help with all needs.

Very modern inside in a 400 yr old structure. Totally mind blowing. The only issue is the walk up 2 floors with suitcases. Friendly and clean, a peaceful stay.

near the central station
average place to stay. very close to central station. big supermarket nearby. our room had a high ceiling with a very high window. the room was very airless, we needed to run the air conditioner continuously. the room had only 1 powerpoint that we could use, and that was used by the minibar fridge. no glasses in the room. the included breakfast was very limited. reception is 2 floors above street level. there are no lifts.

Be carefull and think twice
Description of "basic" room does not meet description. Well it does if you read fine print and accept "Italian" interpretation of private bathroom, accross the corridor. Extremely noisy room, you can hear your neighbours pee in toilet and brushing it. You would hear every step of every person in next rooms and in corridor. Area around is market with lots of dodgy people and smells accordingly. Not good value for money, taking average price of stays in Sicily.
