Shati Al Qurum Travel Guide

Muscat
Shatti Al Qurum which includes mountains
Spend some time in a wealthy Muscat seaside neighborhood that is known for its elegant homes, picturesque beach and independent boutiques.

Shatti Al Qurum is an upscale residential district of large whitewashed villas, tree-lined streets, embassies, ministries and government offices. With good shopping options, cultural attractions, a beautiful beach and proximity to historical sites, it is a wonderful place for a vacation. Enjoy thrilling watersports, see ancient fortresses and spend an evening at the opera.

Start your vacation with a visit to Qurum Beach, one of Oman’s most popular beaches. Find a quiet spot to bask in the sun's rays and then cool off in the Gulf of Oman. Book scuba diving and snorkeling trips with local operators and engage in a host of watersports, including Jet Skiing, kayaking and parasailing. Afterward, restore energy levels with a meal in a nearby café or restaurant with views of the sea.

If shopping excites you, investigate the Opera Galleria mall and the Jawharat Al Shatti shopping complex. The latter hosts the Omani Heritage Gallery, which sells pottery, weavings and traditional items, such as Khanjar daggers and silver herz necklaces.

Take advantage of the sightseeing opportunities within easy reach of Shatti Al Qurum. Go on an excursion to Muscat Old Town, approximately 10 miles (16 kilometers) east of the neighborhood. Look over the magnificent Al Jalali Fort and Al Mirani, two 16th-century strongholds. Admire the flamboyant design of Al Alam Palace, a royal residence belonging to the ruling monarch. These buildings are not open to the public, but they’re worth seeing for their architectural features.

Appreciate the extraordinary beauty of the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque's Islamic architecture. This important place of worship is a short drive from Shatti Al Qurum and is open to non-Muslim visitors. For your evening's entertainment, watch a concert, dance, musical or other theatrical performance at the Royal Opera House Muscat.

To experience Shatti Al Qurum’s beach, shops and exciting cultural attractions, fly into Muscat International Airport, which is located about 12 miles (20 kilometers) west of the area. Get around by taxi, rental car and public transportation.
