Old world courtesy, but fully 21st century outlook
We stayed two nights and found the hotel to be in an excellent location for seeing the tourist attractions of Mumbai. We had arrived in Mumbai after a long train journey and despite not having a restaurant, the hotel was able to order an excellent lunch from a local restaurant which came within 20 minutes and was absolutely delicious. The beds were unbelievably comfortable and the complimentary breakfast was exactly what we as a family needed before going off to do a tour of Dharavi. The staff, headed by the wonderfully courteous and thoughtful manager, Hemond, were always polite and efficient. A hotel which does its utmost to ensure you have a restful and restorative stay.

a suprisingly modern and comfortable hotel
When you step out of your taxi and look at the outside of this hotel I wouldn't blame you if, on first impression, you jump right back in the taxi and find an alternative place to stay! The outside of the hotel looks terrible and, as you enter the door and go up the flight of stairs, your view of the hotel is only going to get worse and you will - as I did - wonder what on earth you've let yourself in for. However, when you enter the hotel itself on the first floor it's like you enter a tranquil alternative universe. A lot of money has obviously been spent on the place - it's well appointed, clean, well looked after and very inviting. The staff are extremely professional and make you feel like you're in a much grander location than the one outside the hotel. Just one niggle - the hot water tanks are ridiculously small so remember to turn the water off in the shower as you lather up!!! Top tip - the café underneath the restaurant looks rather dark and intimidating but give it a go - it serves the best lassi I've ever tasted in India, and the food is extremely tasty and almost ridiculously cheap. Officers from the neighbouring police station regularly eat there so don't worry about your safety, despite the look of the place. As for the hotel itself, it doesn't have a restaurant, but the staff are more than happy to place an order for you with a nearby restaurant. If you're a shopaholic Crawford Market is only 10 minutes' walk away where you can buy just about anything.

Had a good stay at Hotel Elphinstone. All the staff were brilliant and friendly, some great recommendations for local cheap restaurants and take outs. Free breakfast in the morning was nice and chai in the afternoon great after a long day sight seeing. Overall great value for money

My stay at HEA was superb. On the outside this place does not look like much but inside this is an immaculate hotel with a great lounge area. The room was great and the air-conditioning was excellent. Water dispenser in the lounge is always a massive bonus. When I arrived the guy on reception was really keen to advise me on the surrounding areas and give me advice and what I wanted to see in Mumbai. Whilst I was a little disappointed that I did not get a double bed instead of two singles I was aware that there was no guarantee of my request being granted and this did nothing to take away from what my stay and I would not hesitate to recommend this place.

great location great price
great location right in the centre, staff very friendly and helpful, if you need anything just ask the staff and if they can they will get it for you, we required currency, the hotel do not have a exchange bureu however the staff said they can change it for us so we gave GBP to the staff and within an hour they exchanged it and dropped it too our room. Hotel was clean, breakfast was nice, staff always happy to go out of their way to help for the price we paid 15 nights went really quick but we were comfortable and did not need to worry about our belongings going missing. if you want room cleaning just hand them the keys in on your way out. The downstairs of the hotel does not look nice dont let this put you off as the lower building is not part of the hotel. I do recommend you pay extra for the bigger room so there's more space, the small rooms are nice but bigger rooms more comfy and worth paying a little extra. will definitely be staying here again in the future

Good central location, yummy breakfast, good price
I enjoyed the service and professionalism of the staff - when I arrived, I was greeted with a drink and a snack. The staff were very polite, and helped with tips about nearby restaurants, and wifi is available, and the breakfast was pretty yummy. Mumbai is expensive - so I figured it was important to keep my expectations in check - and the hotel was clean, very centrally located, and the staff did an overall amazing job.

Excellent value for money
We had a delightful stay in this hotel - the room was extremely comfortable and very clean. All the staff from the manager to cleaners were very courteous and happy to assist whatever the time. We would have rated the hotel 5 stars, but it is a pity that there is no lift, as there are two flight of stairs to enter the hotel. It was also an extremely pleasant surprise to enter the hotel, as the surrounding area and ground-floor entrance is extremely dingy.

Little Gem Of A Hotel
Doesn't look like much from the outside but once you step inside it's a pleasant surprise. Would recommend! All staff very friendly and helpful, room ideal size and clean. Location , couple of nice little local places to eat below hotel or short ride to centre. Thank You :-)

Nice hotel. Staff very friendly. Small breakfast in the morning and tea in the evening is complimentary. Clean. The room is small and has no window so can get very stuffy. Wifi, hot water works fine. Bed is comfortable. 30 min walk down to fort or across to promenade.

Great place for a night
Really great place to stay for a night. The place was very clean and tidy and the room was nice. Wifi was OK. Air conditioning worked well, although maybe a little too well! I don't think the thermostat worked so we woke up cold! Breakfast in the morning was really tasty. Customer service level is excellent. They have contacted me afterwards to get feedback and were really responsive to my comments. Location was good as it was only a short tuk tuk from the train and bus stations. You probably walk to the KSRTC bus station but it was very hot and we had luggage so didn't. We felt it was excellent value but we had used one of our hotels.com free nights so the the price was highly discounted. However I do think we still would have felt it was good value if we had paid full price. If we returned we would definitely consider staying there again.

Best budget hotel in Mumbai - but Very Noisy
This is a great hotel but it has a couple issues. First, the good: super clean, friendly and helpful staff, modern decor, comfortable lobby, good but very basic breakfast, very comfortable beds, decent wifi - probably the best service I've had in a budget hotel. Now, the Bad: the nightclub downstairs plays very loud music until 2am every night, the superior rooms are tiny (6-8 mtrs sq.) with 2 twin beds, not a double and twin as advertised, the neighbourhood is pretty rundown looking. If not for the super loud music that kept me awake it would have been one of the best budget hotels I've stayed in.

It was good. I was there only for a night to participate in SCMM and the hotel is located not too far away from the starting point (Azad Maidan). Hotel is located on the Eastern Road.

Does exactly what it says!
I was looking for a cheap, clean and comfortable hotel in a central location and hotel Elphinstone ticked all the boxes. I had a very late night check in which I informed the hotel about and there were not any issues when I arrived, smooth check in with a complimentary bottle of water and crisps while I waited for my passport to be copied, 5 mins max, was shown to my room which was comfortable and clean with all the amenities you would expect from a budget hotel. I would say that the area isn't fantastic but hey it's Mumbai and at no point did I feel unsafe and the hotel staff and surrounding bars and restaurants had great service. Don't be put off by the outside and entrance to the hotel as once your inside its a lot more modern, all in all, cheap, cheerful and clean with great staff, what more do u need from a budget hotel?!

A good hotel with pleasant and friendly staff, a nice reception area, free newspapers, wifi and massage area. It's very important to mention that superior rooms are extremely claustrophobic, small and have no windows! They're very uncomfortable. Deluxe rooms offer natural light and more space. The latter is a more expensive option but worth my recommendation.

No hygiene, room was really dirty. You have to go through dodgy corridors to get there. There was no water for the first few hours. Wifi was patchy. Sheets and towels looked like they haven't been washed in ages.

Our stay was great! We stayed 4 nights as it was central for getting to many different areas in Mumbai rather quickly. The hotel is VERY clean, efficient and friendly staff, the lobby is modern and contemporary, tall ceilings and big windows make this bright and airy. The rooms are an okay size, the beds are very comfortable and the linens are really white and clean! Lots of good pressure and hot water....so you have a good shower. WiFi service was fine. The breakfast was limited and that was fine with us. The resturant service was efficient and the orders came quickly. Like the saying goes do not judge a book by its cover....so do not judge this hotel by the exterior of the building, the general area or the stairs going up to the first 2nd floor where the hotel. When you open the door into the hotel it is a very nice lobby that greets you and it is well maintained. Staff were never idle, they were always clean glass doors, window, door handles, etc. while we were here most of the guest were Europeans, Australians and Americans. It is easy to get a taxi in this area. We booked via hotels.com and our reservation was seamless and it was just a matter of the front desk getting the passport info. And we were into our room. We have already recommended to people to stay here and will continue to share that message to others.

The hotel was very good value for money, not far from the train station and close to the main tourist attractions. The staff were very friendly and helpful. There is a free breakfast and free chai in the lobby. The neighbourhood seems a bit sketchy, but this is Mumbai and that's something you deal with. Saying that, there was never a moment that I felt unsafe. Recommend this hotel

It's nice staying in the hotel. It's almost in the heart of the city full of traffic yet give peace of mind in the room and the lounge as well. Overall it's good but yes there are some more points to be improved like the watch which is hanging in room no 112 is not working. Thank you team Elphinstone at last a pleasure stay in here.

The Superior room is very small however it's clean. But I am used rooms in Asia being small. Centrally located which gives you great access to Crawford Market and CST train station. The wifi work s very well. Not the fastest but it is consistent. I would say better than average. Mr. S. was very helpful with recommending activities during my stay. Great price as well, for what you get. Breakfast also come with the room. To be honest I was very impressed with the room and was singing it's praises. That was great until nightfall. Here is the straight bad news. Directly below is a beer bar. Google and learn more about that scene. Anyway the music is pumping loud. You can audible hear each song being played. It's starts about 8:00 PM and goes until 1:30 AM. This was confirmed by Mr. S. when I inquired. The night manager was not as honest as Mr. S. when asked about the music. He said it's a party and the music will stop at 11 PM. It's 10:30 PM at the moment let see what happens. It went on as before. A real shame. Otherwise, I would have given this an excellent rating. I would not encourage anyone to stay here unless you can deal with being on top of a bar. Bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper. Good sleep is way more important than a deal any night.

On the second night of my stay,I was awaken by the water dripping to my pillow from the air condition unit.When I turned the air condition off,the water start dripping to the other bed's pillow.I get up,dressed,went out to tell the receptionist.He checked,let the waiter to pull two beds away from the dripping point.He promised to call some body to fix the problem. I went out at 8am.when I come back at noon,still need to wait to 1:30 to go in my room because the repair men came the second time to finish their job.
