Hotels near Mount Richmond

We had a week at Vintners Retreat (not to be confused with Vintners Hotel just down the road) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The villa was new and modern and very open plan so heaps of room for our 16mth old to run around when it was raining. The outside was also great with a large lawn and patio area complete with bbq. The location was superb, being semi rural in amongst the vineyards (with Wairau River Vineyard and restaurant just next door and Nautilus across the road). It was a great spot to base ourselves when exploring the Marlborough region with Picton 30 mins and Kaikoura just 1.5 hrs away. You do need a car though.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with hosts Diane and Robert. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. The fresh fruit and homemade preserves for breakfast were excellent. The garden is beautiful. Thanks to Diane and Robert for their help in planning our time. My only regret is that we did not stay longer. Only two nights was not enough. We will definitely be back.

Very neat, clean contemporary style unit. Nice kitchen, table area, and very comfortable king bed. Situated by their vineyard, this is very convenience to the local vineyards in the area. Restaurant had delicious food but some might believe it to be too pricey. We did not. Would recommend the unit and restaurant to friends, and would definitely stay there again.

On first arriving there was confusion with my booking regarding who I was staying with. I had neglected to put down my partners details on the booking and they assumed I was staying by myself. We had dinner plans but they had already were prepared to entertain me for dinner with their other guests that night which was sweet. John and Paulette were extremely hospitable. We felt like we were staying at our parents or close friends place.

The motel was all that you could ask for. It was clean, had a great bed and all the amenities that the the traveler would want. Jodi, the owner/hostess, was quite helpful in directing us to activities and restaurants. We will certainly use this facility again should we pass this way.

In an era of blandness in hotel design the Chateau Marlborough offers a touch of individuality. Our room was an interesting space with a choice of spaces to enjoy. If only we had had more time to enjoy it. Service was good and attentive and the restaurant added to the quality of the facilities, providing an excellent breakfast to set us on our way.
