The caretakers were superb. The staff were fantastic. Very friendly and helpful permanent residents. Great location and the the best is when all the guests getting together at dusk to feed the fish. We will love to go back

Bit out of town, snorkel reefs off the property
Vanuatu is just opening up for business, all the staff keen to make our stay comfortable especially helping out with transport. Its not really easy walking distance to much. The 2 bedroom bungalow was super spacious and comfy, bit worn out but good beachy, salt sprayed, wind blown vibe. Snorkeling off the jetty very good but water can get rough.

No joy
Vanuatu is a poor country and sure, these bungalows are luxury, be it a bit run down. However, hospitality does not cost anything, and the way this place is run is unwelcoming and cheap. It has a negative and cold atmosphere. It did not spark joy.

Very mixed feelings about this 'Resort'... Upon arrival, it was not what I expected based on photographs and the description on Expedia. Photos were very misleading and cleverly done to hide the fact that the resort is not on an accessible beachfront, the only way into the water is down a ladder off a jetty - as the waterfront is untraversable rocks. You have to walk 25-30 minutes up the road to get to an accessible/sand beach area. The swimming pool is very small compared to the size it appears to be in the photographs. We were not aware that the only dining option is the one small restaurant on the resort. The next closest restaurant is 30 min walk away. However, the evening meals we had there were always very nice and of good quality. The same can not be said for the 'complimentary' breakfast. It was nice to be away from Port Vila - by the water. It is quiet and peaceful. The downside of this placement means you have to arrange a bus or taxi every time you want to go on a trip or leave the resort. Management will do this for you, but it obviously costs every time - and we didn't find it cheap. The bungalow was spacious and well equipped if you wanted to cook for yourself - but a trip to get food meant a bus or taxi ride. Based on the facilities on this property I think the word 'resort' is a bit misleading. it is a collection of 16 or so bungalows, in pleasant gardens with one small restaurant and a small swimming pool.

Boutique self contained resort on reef waterfront
Comfortable and spacious self catering 2 bedroom bungalow on the water. All staff friendly and as it is a small resort everyone gets to know each other (staff and guests) Good snorkelling right out the front and great restaurant on site. No sandy beach if that’s what you want, but didn’t bother us. 400vt pp each way to town from resort

Great spot to stay. Quiet area, great landing by the water where we had 5 o’clock drinks with other residents a few times. Well managed with plenty of help, quality meals at the restaurant, incredibly comfortable villas with large rooms, kitchen and balcony. Very friendly environment. 20 mins out of Port Vila. Thoroughly enjoyed our 7 day stay. Easy Bbus access from the villas to anywhere

Some of the facilities were a little tired, but all were scrupulously clean, and worked. The constant breeze kept temperatures balmy, but sometimes whipped up the sea to make snorkeling difficult.Once in the water there was never any current so it was very safe unless too close to the top of the reef. Feeding the many large fish was a delight for some of the guests. The staff were very friendly, and Gerry and hubby made sure every wish was made possible. Highly recommended. Transport was easy if a little expensive, although that is normal in Vanuatu.

Wonderful location for family Vanuatu stay PERFECT
Island Magic was a brilliant - highly recommend it for a family holiday. Our 2 bedroom beachfront bungalow was extremely spacious and had everything we needed. The deck on the beachfront bungalow had the most beautiful views - so easy to sit back, relax and enjoy! The gardens were lovely and made sure all the bungalows were private. The location of the resort was great - Mele is out of the hustle of Vila and close enough to travel in if supplies needed. Our continental breakfast each day was very generous - lovely fresh local fruits, cereal, yoghurt, toast. The onsite restaurant was very nice quality food. Our kids loved the volleyball court. The snorkelling off the jetty was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately it is a bit exposed, so it isn't great if it is too windy, but when conditions are right, we don't think you could find a better spot. The coral is fantastic as were the huge variety and number of fish. It was paradise underwater - we have snorkelled the Great Barrier Reef a few times, but right off the jetty at Island Magic wins hands down! The hotel manager, Gerry and her staff, were very helpful and made sure our stay was a very lovely family experience. Tina at breakfast was very thoughtful and polite and Joe, who kept the gardens looking beautiful, was great fun and helpful. We can't rate this place high enough - we don't usually return to the same place for holidays, but may have to rethink that approach after visiting Island Magic.

Excellent value
Island magic resort is in a great location, close to lots of attractions but is very quiet and peaceful. The bungalows are spacious, private and well maintained. We enjoyed exploring the reef out the front of the property - lots of beautiful fish and healthy coral. Often, it was just our family exploring the reef. Gerry and her staff were very accommodating and arranged many activities for our family making the holiday super easy and stress free. Island magic resort is excellent value for money - it deserves the excellent reviews it consistently achieves.

Managers of the resort were on the whole helpful. Resort had a tired feel. The lock box in our room was broken and no keys, so had to have our money and documents on us everywhere. Beds were extremely comfortable and linen was clean. Resort a long way from anywhere. We ended up hiring a car to not feel so isolated.

Island paradise found
We absolutely loved our stay here and we would definitely go back. However, we were initially a little disappointed at the condition and cleanliness of the bungalow - (floor tiles in particular needed scrubbing rather than wet mopped), the corroded fans, lamps, lights and tap ware detracted from an otherwise spacious airy and comfortable bungalow. it would have also been good to see a few more reclining sun loungers. There were all the facilities to self cater but we would encourage that you support the onsite restaurant as the chef provides beautiful food and well priced. We had the best seafood platter and steaks we have ever had. The hospitality shown by Gerri and Jan was an absolute highlight. The staff were lovely. The seawater here was stunning and pristine with tropical fish in abundance off the end of the jetty. There is something truly magical about the place.

Relaxing resort overlooking the ocean
We spent one week at the Island Magic Resort. We arranged a number of tours and activities with the help of the hotel staff. We spent Christmas Day here and had a nice buffet lunch including fresh seafood. The resort has a private jetty which a nearby reef. You can see feed the fishes and go snorkeling. We used buses to travel into town. As bus fare is per person and the limited buses operating in off-peak times, next time I would consider renting a car.

Pleasant 12 days
For a first trip to Vanuatu - on which relaxing was the most important thing - the Island Magic proved to be a good choice of places to stay. It's out of the bustle around town (which can get busy) and in a nice location with good swimming around, although there's no beach immediately by the hotel. Rather, there's a reef which provided some super snorkelling and the beach (black sand) is a few minutes walk down the road. The pace was gentle, the people were nice and the place was just what we were after. We had a very pleasant stay - the 12 days proved almost exactly right for us - and returned home feeling significantly better in mind and body.

Island Magic was just what we needed, peaceful, safe, lovely surroundings. The staff were friendly and very helpful as required, when we asked about different excursions they were organised quickly without issue. It was great to be away from the main town but close to shops if we needed anything, biking distance. We were well catered for at the on site restaurant, delicious meals served by friendly faces. Our room was comfortable and had everything we needed.

Right from the moment we arrived we knew we were somewhere special. The bungalows are perfect, great size full kitchen, very private and lovely views. The staff are very friendly, hosts Gerry and Jan extremely helpful and informative. The chef is amazing definitely eat here if you can, the other staff are really nice too, and we discovered a lot about the lives of ni-vanuatu with our chats with them. Great for snorkelling off the jetty, plenty of fish, can be a bit difficult when windy. Overall we had a fantastic holiday, and we hope to come and stay here again.

Rooms were excellent for families, plenty of room and staff were very accommodating. A bit of a hike out of town, but still lots to do near by... We had a great holiday at Island Magic, I would just recommend bringing as much food from home as possible as there are full kitchen facilities here and food prices everywhere are quite expensive...

great location
We stayed in a bungalo which was approx 40m from the water front. We had complementary snorkel sets which we used on a number of occasions. The weather was a little uninviting for a few days with a cyclone expected. This threat dissipated after about three days and the weather then improved. The bungalos are tastefully decorated and in good repair, however some of the appliances were not operating correctly.

Well managed bungalows
If you want a nice quiet stay this is for you. Suggest you rent car as fairly isolated and difficult to get out at night with no car and have to rely and pay locals to get to restaurants/cafés for a night off cooking. However there is a barbecue to use. Access to water to swim and snorkel difficult and windy aff the bay which meant big sea. Was not able to snorkel here at all during our 8 day stay. Bungalows good and clean and management were very attentive and helpful. Intending to open a restaurant/bar which it really needs

Great location for Snorkeling
Very close to the sea and a great coral reef - very easy to access for snorkeling. Nice swimming pool too, to cool off or just relax with plenty of seating. Accomodation very comfortable - we are 2 adults and 2 teenagers, and the bungalow was two ensuite bedrooms, one double and one twin which suited fantastically, and there was enough seating inside to comfortably seat us all both in the lounge area and the dining area, and also a really lovely covered porch area. 10 minutes drive to Port Vila - sometimes quite difficult to flag down a bus and it was quite pricey to request one, so would recommend hiring a car. The airport transfer company provided us with details of the cruise liner schedules which was vital to planning any tours, as they are all booked out by the passengers on those days, and there is no chance of a bus or taxi either. Only down side was that there was no bar/cafe area - closest was the Banjor resort, about 5 mins walk, however the reception did sell bbq packs, soft drinks, beer, wine etc during its opening hours.

Perfect family holiday spot
Really good spot on Mele Bay on the opposite side of the bay to Hidaway island. Snorkeling right out the front of the resort was some great with heaps of good coral and loads of fish up to about 50cm long. We went in within about an hour of the plane landing. At low tide it was a little bit tricky to get out of the water with the kids but well worth the effort and at high tide it was easy. We made use of the two rooms (one for the kids), washing machine and kitchen with full size fridge. It is about a 10 minute drive into the centre of town so we just hired a small 4wd for the week and it worked out well and we went to more places on the island thatn we would have otherwise. The road to the resort is a typical rough dirt road but not much different from the roads in town. The road around the island was great and is all tar and in good condition. First night we ate at Benjor which is a short walk up the road but once we had the car we ate at a different place each night and cooked on the BBQs in the resort too. The hosts were great and did the extra little things that made it nicer like bringing down some hot cross buns and chocolate eggs for the kids at Easter. The grounds were well looked after and it was a very private place with only 18 bungalows. We would definitely go back again.

Fish galore
This accommodation has great potential. It's more a holiday let rather than a resort as there is no restaurant on site, but it is away from the noise of the city centre, it is near a fabulous clean beach (3 min walk) and snorkelling and fish feeding is available off the jetty on site. Snorkelling is wonderful on a calm day as entering and exiting the ladder is reliant on timing the water swells right to avoid hitting sharp corals, but once in the fish are all there to see. The pool area is lovely with BBQ area for all to use. Allow about 2000 Vatu from the airport by Taxi per car, allow about 300 Vatu each way/each person into the city for groceries if you want to self cater in the fully fitted kitchen, otherwise there is a restaurant about 10 mins walk from the accommodation. The rooms are well presented, but be aware the ensuites have louvre doors! Allow 2000 Vatu for internet for your full stay and it's really slow! We walked to the Summit Garden which is a 200m high hill for a nice coffee and cake at the café and very close by. The gardens at the accommodation are very well maintained, the downside is that they are always working on it with noisy machinery. Should a hire car be made available to guests and the jetty extended for easy access into the water the place would be fantastic. An early morning trip back to the airport costs about 2800 Vatu door to door. Be aware you can't change your money back from Vatu at the airport at about 6am. We had a lovely relaxing stay.
