Manises is a town in the province of Valencia that has always been known for its ceramic craftsmanship. Testament to this can be seen in the several Roman ruins you can still visit today, though the most outstanding Roman element is perhaps the Els Arcs aqueduct. It was built as an irrigation canal for the area and its 28 arches with stalactites make our cheap trips to Manises all the more worthwhile.
The façade of the Els Filtres municipal market is sure to take your breath away. There you’ll find a series of ceramic panels reproducing the uses and customs of Valencian markets in the 18th century. This incredibly beautiful work is the perfect welcome to the market.
Next to it is the Els Filtres park, ideal for a walk on a sunny morning, especially if you have little ones, who are sure to have a great time at its playground. The El Boscany garden is also a highlight, above all for the ceramic panels that decorate its walls, and depict traditional Valencian children’s games.
These gardens surround the Casa de Cultura i Joventut, located in a beautiful neo-Gothic style building that was once a Carmelite convent. Today, it’s home to a library and exhibition hall, so be sure to check the schedule before your trip, as you may find something to your liking.
Finally, package deals to Manises wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the old ceramic school. Founded in 1896, it’s a historical and cultural symbol of Manises, as it helped in training the town’s numerous professionals in the sector. Not to be missed!
Valencia airport is actually located in Manises, so you can reach the centre on foot if you wish. If not, you can take metro line 3 or 5, or a bus. Check our deals of flight plus hotel to Manises and treat yourself to some well-earned R&R.
