Thank you, to all the staff at The Grand, you made our recent stay enjoyable and trouble free. The hotel, is very clean, the staff are warm and friendly. The location is excellent to walk into Valletta ,the airport, and the local bus terminal. We would definitely stay again.

Fantastic except for two things. The aircon was not working properly so we opened the sliding door get fresh air in. Unfortunately the staff at the entrance to the hotel working nights thought everyone else was also up so they kept us up with their laughter and banging about of luggage, slamming car doors. So if I were to book again I would book sea view, far away from front door!

The customer service was amazing! The pools were great & the views were spectacular. Everything we wanted to see is within a 15-20 min walk of the hotel. I felt completely safe walking at night. The food was good & reasonably priced. Loved being able to store our bags after checkout so we could continue to tour the city before our flight.

The hotel is well situated 10 minutes walk from the main gates of Valletta. Hotel is large and generally clean. Our room had a large terrace, but with no parasol so would be very exposed when hotter, the outside pool was being renovated which we weren't informed of. Good cleanliness and warm service. Breakfast was busy, although in a single large room it was not too noisy. The reason for 4 stars only was that small things like sauces, salt and pepper only being available in sachets felt cheap and a bit B&B. Coffee in the room was also Nescafe sachets - as bit cheap when paying £200 per night.

I had a very disappointing experience that I feel compelled to share. Contrary to its advertised image as a five-star luxury resort, the reality is far from it. The condition of the property is dire, with the rooms featuring old, stained carpets, and the bathroom tiles cracked and showing their age. The beds, equipped with metal spring mattresses that seem to be decades old, along with unclean pillows, made for an uncomfortable setting. Moreover, there's a pervasive smell of water damage throughout the property. Upon arrival and initial inspection of our room, it became clear that the accommodations were not as promised. I promptly returned to the front desk to express that the room was not acceptable and that I would not be staying. Despite this, the hotel refused to issue a refund, citing their cancellation policy, even though my actions did not constitute a breach of contract since I had already checked in. During my time at the front desk, I witnessed two other families expressing similar complaints. What's more disheartening is Expedia's lack of accountability for the misleading representation of this property on their platform. It's widely known among the locals about the deceptive nature of this place, which is a disservice to Malta's efforts to attract tourists. I strongly advise against staying here.

The Trip Advisor reviews say it all. Firstly the staff, from all over the world, are so friendly and helpful and any little problem is quickly solved. Secondly, the breakfast was included. It includes all you can eat from healthy, cooked and continental and saves money eating out during the day. It is so convenient, being walking distance of the city of Valletta, the foot ferry to Sliema and the bus station to all parts of the island. The prices are reasonable and they are renovating parts. It's my 5th stay here and I'll be back.

Concierge was great , restaurant staff and spa were also amazing! Really hard to get hold of reception or room service at times! The flush didn’t work properly and had to wait hours for it to work, when you have a 5 years old it can be hard to work with something that’s not working! Also the saune is not indicated I couldn’t find it ! Swimming pool is great and big enough! The artist on Saturday night was great ! Overall I would come back to stay in the hotel

Underwhelming
We spent 5 nights at the hotel.. The hotel has good facilities but lacks atmosphere. The staff were polite and professional and the rooms were nice. The staff were slow to serve drinks in the bar and we had to keep asking for tea at breakfast. Areas round the pool were not cleared from glasses/plates for days. Access to Valletta was good for us but not good for those with mobility issues.

Chose this hotel because of a previous stay and also proximity to Valletta. My wife has a wheelchair which we found was not very good to get to Valletta with as the pathways are not very good, but a taxi was cheap and quick enough. Wish they would use disabled people to plan these features. Hotel itself was marvellous.

Great plade to stay
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Grand Excelsior. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and playful. We stayed in a 7th floor terraced room and absolutely loved the view. The room was extremely quiet, although it was the low season, and the common areas were often quite loud, especially with children, but we are an older couple without children, thus not always in the mood for children's antics. The dining options were limited during the Christmas season, thus we ate out more often than inside. The breakfast buffet was very good, but extremely British, which is perhaps expected. Obviously, we are not British.

Lovely stay at this hotel but sadly facilities let it down a bit. Staff are wonderful, great breakfast but room a bit dated ( although bed very comfortable) bathroom has a very deep but short bath. Hand shower above by doesn’t reach so you can wash your hair! Separate shower cable but only has large fixed shower head on the ceiling! No hot water from sink but plenty in bath! All in all good stay but could do with a bit of an upgrade to make it 5*!

This property is past its best years..Requires some proper cleaning and renovation. The best thing about excelsior is its location, which is convenient and its staff, especially Jordan, who was very helpful and caring. We were disappointed with the poor quality of breakfast buffet. Omelet was on a verge of being burnt and very flat. Not 5 star at all. Lots of poor quality breads and overall disappointing. Yet again, the serving staff was nice. Poor room cleaning.

The rooms need upgrading. The floors are carpet, and the sliding door to the balcony was stuck. The beds were tiny and if you have a third adult in the room they give you a rollaway bed with a thin mattress. The breakfast buffet was great and had a nice view. The location wasn’t bad as it’s walking distance to restaurants. We used the pool but it didn’t look very clean, especially the jacuzzi as it had lots of stains. Reception staff were really nice.

Time for a facelift
This hotel was once, and could be again, a very grand experience. While it’s very well run and the staff are amazing, the entire place is a little tired. It’s time to refresh it all from the lobby to the lounge to the spa and most importantly the guest rooms.

Cleaning staff went beyond their duties to enhance our stay. Tours were well organized by our concierge with a boat p/u and d/off. Breakfast was a buffet feast with great variety of foods. Unfortunately 2 of the female front desk staff were not as competent as they should have been. Breakfast was not on the 11 th floor. Also confusion as to where various amenities were located. Did not appreciate being abandoned and forgotten after leaving me at the front desk while they went to check on my queries. We were not notified of repairs to the plumbing resulting in our not being able to shower and get ready for dinner. Still overall a wonderful time exploring Malta

We had to move from another hotel last minute as it was so bad we just couldn’t stay there and the experience at the Grand was so different. It was our first time in Malta and the staff at The Grand were extremely helpful. The welcome drink at check in was a lovely touch and delicious too. The restaurant staff professional, when I advised them I was coeliac they offered me so many gluten free options I was totally taken aback. I loved it, the bed was really comfortable. I would definitely stay there again.

Give yourself a treat!
Fabulous staff, very helpful & welcoming. Everton was lovely on reception. I stay in many hotels in Malta for leisure and this has been the best stay so far

View of the harbour from our balcony added a lot to our experience. Property is getting a bit dated and would benefit from an update. Proximity to Valletta a major plus, very walkable.
