Sand Dunes at Sam (42 km)

The sifting sands of the dunes at Sam, on the edge of the Desert National Park, relentlessly moving and changing are a breathtaking sight and the sunsets there, are particularly spectacular.

The three-day Desert Festival in January attracts a great deal of visitors. The evening entertainment includes captivating performances by snake charmers, puppeteers, folk dancers and musicians and camel races & camel polo are also on the festival agenda. The culmination of the festival takes place around campfires that burn till dawn at the sand dunes in Sam, where most of the festivities take place.

Lodurva

(16 km) Ancient capital of Jaisalmer. Its complex of splendid Jain temples makes it both a tourist attraction and an important Jain pilgrim centre.

Akal Wood Fossil Park

(17 km) Fossillised remains of a forest that grew 180 million years ago. Close by is another pre-historic site - Kandiala - where undated fossilised rocks with tiny sea shells embedded in them can be seen, evidence that this desert was once part of the ocean bed!

Desert National Park

(45km) This 3000 km stretch protects the fragile desert ecosystem in its natural environs. The native flora consists of cacti, thorny shrubs, bushes and trees and hardy vegetation and the local fauna constitutes animal species like the monitor lizard, desert foxes, porcupines and herds of black buck.

Shri MohanGarh Fort (65 KMS)

The youngest Fort of India situated near the Indira Gandhi canal. It is famous for shooting like Sarfarosh and Tashan.

Fortress Of Hadda (25 KMS)- A Fortress and not a Fort due to its miniature size. It is situated between Jaisalmer and Mohangarh Fort.
