"Comfort B&B close to Gare de Midi & metro Brussels"
We stayed for two nights at the end of a five week trip. We booked a room and were given a two roomed junior suite. Maison AZ is in an elegant old house with keypad access from the street. There is also a lift. Breakfast is served downstairs and is a generous continental breakfast. The bed was comfortable, we had plenty of space as well as free internet. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend

Evening jaz club in the restaurant and chef was fantastic. Menus on French. The restaurant is closed on sundays for dinner. Daily Complimentary continental buffet breakfast. Room was clean and tidy but take you own shampoo and hair dryer. Walls are a bit thin and the picture drawings remind you this was once a "meeting" hotel. Friendly staff and Barman made his fair share of cocktails. In a street being rejuvenated. Maybe more business, couples than family hotel.
The hotel was fine for our needs; a weekend break to Brussels. Staff were pleasant and helpful and great access to the the centre of the city. We found out the bus was directly outside the hotel on our last day.

Self-service B&B in good location but spoilt for me by lack of advertised breakfast service (no fresh rolls or croisants) and on;y one choice of cereal. Comfortable bed, warm room, excellent bathroom. Other amenities consistent with advertising. Interesting house architecturally, but room access up steep spiral staircase not suited for large case or tired/disabled traveller. In good art nouveau/deco area; good local restaurants. good communications with tram services over city; metro about 20 mins stroll. I probably would not return as I know some small hotels in the area with more facilities at similar price but worth trying if you wish to be different. Minimalist.
The room I stayed in required some adjustments on my part so that I could find my way around it. It was a bit too tight. There were shelves and hangers, instead of a closet. With a big luggage to place on the floor, odds are you will have to mind your steps a bit. But if you know that you won't be spending much time in your room and you only need it as a cheap, safe, neat and tidy place to crash in at night, these things don't matter and the hotel is perfect for you.
The staff was very friendly. My room was cleaned and tidied up everyday. You can get a city map for free at the hotel.
Don't walk to the hotel from Gare du Midi (even though it's just a 30-minute walk) because it's a rough uphill walk to the hotel. Take the metro from Gare du Midi to Porte de Namur, and walk to the hotel from there.
