Port Glasgow is the largest of the several towns and villages that comprise Inverclyde, and, together with Greenock, was central to Glasgow’s shipbuilding history. The Comet was the first commercial steam vessel in Europe, built in Port Glasgow in 1812; a replica of the famous ship is found in the town centre. Greenock was once home to Scott's, the oldest shipbuilding business in the world.
