El Carmen was centrally located and the staff were very helpful and responsive (in person and via WhatsApp) which enabled a smooth check-in/check-out and arranging a transfer to the airport. Our stay came with a free breakfast which was really convenient. The property and room were clean, air conditioned (with an in room mini-split), renovated, and had filtered water available. The standard king size room was small but perfect for my 1 night stay.

Beautiful hotel but needs some Renovation. There was mold shower and wall. Customer service was good. My honest opinion this hotel just needs deep cleaning. The restaurant charges for ice $2.00

Lovely old colonial setting with a lovely roof restaurant. Beware of several elevation differences that can be tripping hazards.

Only got to stay overnight. Checked in at around 8pm and checked out at 6am. Room was very nice and clean! Restroom very modern. A lot of space to put you’re belongings. No AC but it did not feel hot at all, was able to sleep comfortably. Would definitely book again for a longer stay.

My kids and I spent several nights at El Carmen and it was wonderful! We arrived at midnight and the guy at the front desk was very helpful and efficient - he was so great throughout our visit. We had a room with 3 double beds and they were really comfortable - soft sheets and pillows (we have stayed at 4 hotels in Guatemala) and fluffy towels - best of the hotels we have been at. The water pressure in the shower was AMAZING - really impressed. There were plenty of outlets and we were able to use our 3 prong plugs. The hotel is in a perfect location to get to shops and restaurants. Downtown Antigua reminds me of Carmel, California - everything is nice and cute. But it definitely caters to the tourist. El Carmen was a great home base for us. The EcoFarm tour was top notch, Tartines for dinner had a view of ruins, and the hike to Pakaya was appropriately challenging. The only negative for El Carmen is that the internet in the room was slow sometimes (this didn’t bother me) - my daughter went in the courtyard where the signal was stronger. My daughter was also disappointed that there are no windows to the outside, but that didn't bother me. All in all, great stay at El Carmen - would go there again! (Also wanted to recommend Adralina Tours - they drove us to all locations in Guatemala)
