A convenient stay in central Edinburgh with lovely staff and good security measures on a busy square. Our room was quite tiny (barely room for our suitcases) and the street noise kept us awake even with the hotel-provided earplugs, but they do make a point to warn you about the noise due to the location. Overall it worked for our needs, but was not the most comfortable night.

Close to Royal Mile. Rooms are small and depending on the room, corner rooms on inside of building have poor ventilation. Though a fan is supplied and the window opens slightly, there is no airflow but this is typical of most places in UK. Don’t think they know what HVAC is there.

Good breakfast. Very convenient. Expensive. Little or no parking. Better to Uber or walk. All you need is on the Royal Mile. Very busy and feel crowded in the vicinity.

We stayed here during our vacation and had a wonderful experience. The rooms are very clean and had everything in the room for us to use. It was such a great location that we walked everywhere and we didn’t want to walk. We can just get whatever we wanted brought to our room. I will definitely be staying at this location again. Thank you for a wonderful time.

Excellent hotel. I always try to stay here when in Edinburgh for work. But for how long? £220 per night is completely extortionate. I could not afford to stay here as an independent traveller, nor could I justify it.

Best shower we had on the whole trip! I'd give it 5 stars just for that, but it's also right in the middle of the action on the royal mile, and seems to be competently run. One warning, though: It looks super close to the train station on the map, but there are a couple hundred stairs between here and there. Save yourself and pay £10 for a taxi, or at least take a bus.

Exactly what it says on the tin: a budget hotel in a very good location, esp if you are a tourist. The area to the front of the hotel was usually occupied by some of Edinburgh’s alcoholics. Not threatening but a bit grim to see. Obvs nothing Ibis can do about this.

We enjoyed our stay at Ibis - Hunter Square. The location was perfect and we enjoyed the bar at the lobby several evenings. The rooms were cleaned and everything was as expected. Even though our room faced the street there was no noise at night coming from the street. This might be due to the cold temperatures at night and less people out. If you are sensitive to noises maybe a room without a view would be best - they do offer ear plugs.

Perfect location for experiencing the Royal mile. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. Rooms are on the smaller side but very comfortable and perfect for the solo or partner travelers.

Cool budget hotel in atmospheric location
This hotel has an excellent location five minutes from Waverley Station. It's quite a busy corner of Edinburgh, but our window, which we could open for fresh air, looked out onto a light well at the back, so no view but pretty quiet. The hotel has a youthful, Scandi vibe. The room was small - with two single beds and two people's luggage it was a bit of a squeeze but ok. Body wash and shampoo in the bathroom smelled lovely. I loved the eco features, such as a blackboard in the restaurant recording last week's food waste. Breakfast was good value. From an environmental point of view I think there should be more prominent plant-based options at breakfast. There was meat, cheese, and yogurt displayed prominently, but also cereal, toast and fruit, and cooked tomatoes, beans, mushrooms and hash browns. Non-dairy milk is available if you ask, but it came in a mug, not a jug, and was not chilled. Some hot oat milk to go in coffee would be a nice addition.

Perfect as a base
Rooms are as expected at budget, very clean, abit cramped in the bathroom however no air con meant two of us had to change rooms due to heat. We left a fan on all day and it was hotter than when we left. This was in February so dread to think how hot summer gets. Staff were very good and happy at all times, that was nice. Location is good. Breakfast had a good variety.

Hotel was in a great location, close to the train station and many attractions. It wasn’t particularly fancy but it was clean and the staff were very friendly. For the price we paid it was excellent value

The highlight of the stay was the location. Lots of quirky bars nearby, plenty of restaurants, just off the royal mile so lots to see and do all within easy walking distance.

Great location on a budget.
Great for a one or two night visit to Edinburgh. The location is excellent, just off the royal mile. Lots of attractions, bars, restaurants very close by. Reception staff friendly and helpful. We were able to leave our bags in a luggage room when we arrived early and this allowed us to go exploring straight away. The room was clean, however the window had been left open and it was -4° outside so the room was freezing and took a while to heat up. There is very little storage space for clothes so you would struggle for space if you were staying for more than a vouple of nights. Breakfast is a typical budget hotel buffet. Warm, not hot food. Reasonable choice but nothing special. Overall a great budget hotel in a great location and we would definitely stay here again.

Great stay. GREAT LOCATION. Basis hotel no frills but very clean and lovely staff. We as a couple got a family room plenty big for us but would have being difficult for a family space wise. No safe provided. Breakfast good but the bacon and sausage needed more cooking. Continental end off the breakfast very good and tasty
