I’ve stayed in this hotel a few times and it’s usually reliable. This time however it was not and I had to move rooms several times due to various maintenance issues. Despite a recent renovation one of the buildings needs another round of repairs. The staff were helpful when I brought the issues to their attention but there doesn’t seem to be any senior management presence. The breakfast also badly needs an update. All rooms should have mosquito nets too.

I stayed in the standard room and the executive room with ocean view. Pros: Convenient location with restaurants, bars, and juice/coffee/tea shops. Live bands at the restaurants at night. The standard room was recently renovated. Cons: Wifi was spotty in the standard room. The air conditioner was installed at an odd spot, the closet was blocking most of the cold air coming out of it. The shower was not properly sealed, water leaked through the gaps. The sofa and the cushions were old and smelly, like they were never washed/cleaned. Both rooms were not ready past the check in time.

If you like quiet this isn’t the place for you. The restaurants outside the hotel plays music all day every day and shops and restaurants are busy with tourists and locals well into the wee hours. If someone is singing live then it will be extremely loud in the seaside rooms. When I checked in my room it had a strong urine smell. The carpet needs to be taken up and shouldn’t even be in hotel rooms on the beach. Nice atmosphere to be in overall but the older side of the hotel is very run down. There is a completely different section of rooms by the Hotel reception side which is a lot better and more quiet. The staff is very nice. Breakfast needs improvement.

Fantastic Visit
Fantastic location, wonderful staff (shoutout to Freddy!) and wonderful amenities. I cannot say enough good things about the accommodations and staff at Slipway. Courteous, friendly and thoughtful. They assisted me at the bank across the courtyard, provided restaurant suggestions and arranged private transport and accompaniment for me to do some market shopping in the city. Excellent value for money. I look forward to staying again!

Exceeded Expectations
Slipway was more than I expected. The hotel had shopping centers and restaurants that gave it a resort style feeling. Locals come to watch the sunset in the evenings. The breakfast and dinner staff were knowledgeable and attentive. Kudos to Bhoke for exceptional customer service!

Unfortunately I did not get to enjoy all this property had to offer due to a late check in and VERY early departure. However, the staff was extraordinary and made sure my short stay was superb. They prepared a to-go breakfast for me due to said early departure which was extremely appreciated. All facilities were in excellent working order and I was grateful for the free bottled water. My only complaint was that there wasn’t a trashcan in the room so I had to leave all trash on the bathroom counter which wasn’t ideal. I was a bit worried that the nightlife would keep me away due to where the hotel is located but this wasn’t an issue. Would definitely recommend this place!

Can do better. Poor shower room safety
The hotel has good exterior and good service, however the room we got does not have shower room safety. The shampoo and the shower gel are placed outside the shower room and you have to walk on the slippery floor to get them, In addition there is no shower curtain on the shower room so the splashes all the way below the door and into under the bed you have to call house keeping after shower to dry it. Then the overall final finish of the surface is still rough, on the sink, am sure with a good management they can do better.

Hotel Slipway is a beautiful and well maintained hotel. The rooms (executive) are specious and true to their pictures. Management might just want to refresh the furniture in the near future to keep up with the competition. Overall, great location, staff, restaurants, and experience. Will definitely be back!

We actually enjoyed our stay at this property. It was our experience after we left that has completely ruined the experience we had. I booked for 1 night, but once I arrived after asking for a later checkout the staff member told me you booked for 2 nights. I informed the staff member that I only booked for 1 night. But he insisted it was for 2 nights. We filled a registration form out based on their guidance. A day later they contacted us via WhatsApp and informed us that we stayed longer than we should have, we have charges that need to be paid. I told them exactly what happened but they continued to make me feel like I was the one who stole something from them. I asked them to take accountability for an error they made, but they completely denied everything. If we were supposed to checkout after 1 night, why didn’t anyone come to check why we didn’t check out at the checkout time after the 1st night? The staff member who messaged me used language to belittle me and what I was saying, they would not answer any of the questions I asked and they would not send me the reservation saying that it was for 2 nights from the night I checked in. I did not deny the reservation I made, I am more than willing to pay, but making your customer feel like they had bad intentions is a horrible horrible form of service. An Expedia agent agreed that the hotel made the mistake and that it was only based on their advice that we stayed. The hotel is beautiful, but be careful with the staff.

More for business than a holiday
The Hotel was very nice and has lots of shops and restuarants around it. These are very public and are not exclusively for guests. I was a little fooled by the photos as i thought it was a hotel with a beach. Not so. It is on the water edge but no beach swimming or bathing. The hotel has a nice swimming pool for guests and breakfast is taken in a nice setting. Choice of food for breakfast could be more but it was not bad at all. Rooms were very nice and quiet but not so scenic. Overall we were happy but the hotel is not situated such that it could be called a holiday destination

Nice but beyond perfect
The location is the main positive point. The area is very clean and has several small shops and a few restaurants/bars/coffee places. All right at the sea however without really a beach that one can use. I booked an Executive room and would have expected to have at least a reasonable sized desk with real chair to work. Unfortunately the room does not provide that, therefore no clue why they call it Executive. Internet is ok and reasonably fast. There is a small balcony and rooms from level 2 and up have sea view. All is a bit dated, I had to smash my door to really close it. Several power outages during the night. Pool area is nice however not a lot of chairs and shade. Gym has sea view but small and A/C off, just windows open. That means a lot of sweating. Breakfast is ok but the selection a bit limited. The most I liked was the proximity to the bars and that you can be back to the room within a few steps.

An Oasis in the City
Between the hotel, the surrounding shops & restaurants, as well as the ocean views, the Hotel Slipway is my go-to destination whenever I have a day or two passing through Dar. Sea view rooms in the new building come with balconies that are perfect for working or a little people watching. An afternoon by the pool is a great way to rest up before a long flight at night.

Loved the location, great view, wonderful service and food! The only negative is the carpet in the rooms. Carpet needs to go!

Great Location, Even Better View
Great Location and Great view. The hotel room with an ocean view is quite nice. Although is not very spacious it is more than enough for the time you will probably spend there. Things work in general quite fine. Nice bed and pillows, A/C, internet connection was much better than many other hotels I've tried in Dar. Also, because of its location, you have access to many other restaurants, shops and things to do/see within a very short distance.

The hotel is dated. During CV19 would have been a good time to start a major overhaul of the facility. The carpet made the whole room smell bad. I was denied the simple use of a iron. The receptionist had a terrible attitude. I was charged $10 for a replacement key after misplacing mine. The parking is not free as there is a person that changes you something every time you leave. The place is definitely NOT a four or five star hotel. It reminds me of somewhere my college class mates and I may rent during spring break. Maybe years ago it was in better condition but not anymore.

The plus side: * the breakfast is incredible and the staff is super friendly * the sea view is stunning The down side: * utterly impracticle. Half-levels all over the place with no ramps whatsoever. Carrying your luggage to and from your room is an absolute nightmare¨ * the rooms seem to have been decorated in the 1960 Summary: clearly not up to the standards and way too expensive for what it has to offer

The hotel room is very humid and the pillow case have a serious smell. the towels are very old with dirty color. The room is not well maintained . there are many small shops around hotel, which made life easier.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay. Staff was very accommodating and friendly. There were many onsite things to see and do. Every night was a different experience. I personally liked having shopping, dining, etc. nearby as someone without my own transportation visiting Tanzania for the first time. Definitely a place to stay if you like watching the sunset and sunrise.
