The room was very clean but has certainly seen better days and the bathroom was very cramped although had a good shower. The hotel is well situated in the centre of Carlisle in the heart of the shopping area. "

"Lovely hotel with lots of original features. Rooms were spotless, good decorative standard and the beds are so comfortable. Air conditioning and heating you can control yourself. DH Lawrence stayed there once. Good location, free parking, near to shops, but not too close. They do the best bourbon Ive ever tasted and lots of different drinks like English vodka. Only thing Id rate less than 5 stars was the night porter who I just found a bit difficult, not that helpful and a little odd, but that is only my opinion!"
