If you have a choice, don't go.
When I booked the room, I was told that if I arrived later than 18:00 I had to pick up the keys at another establishment. I was about to cancel, but they wouldn't return the money, so I decided it was better to go by taxi to the first establishment to pick up the keys and the matter was resolved. I arrived at Buenos Aires airport at two o'clock in the morning, the taxi took me to the establishment to pick up the keys to the room. They don't give me any indication, only a key. When I arrive at the Hotel Babel, the key doesn't work. After several minutes trying to get in, the taxi driver tells me that he has to leave, that he has been docked twice in the same area. I convince him to take me back to the first establishment. The person in charge tells me that he's new, and that he can't help me. There is no phone I can call. Finally I decide to stay in the establishment where I pick up the keys, which is a youth hostel. He tells me that I have to pay for it, that it has nothing to do with the first one. The room is a backpacker's hostel, and the bathroom is shared. At least it was clean. The next day at Hotel Babel they apologize and tell me that they forgot the key to the entrance, that they had put in a new system, but they didn't tell me the access code either. They didn't give me back the cost of the room, but they offer me to stay one night free of char

The area around the hotel is not too bad, but at night it got really noisy. The cleanliness and condition of the room could be improved more by offering cleaner bed sheets and blankets. I slept in room 05 and there were some old and dirty blankets and bed sheets in the wardrobe. The blanket I used was not too clean as well. The reception area and the common area were nice.

Was ok before, now not so much
I've stayed here before and liked it - but that was a some time ago and now it's run down and there is less care. So many things... some lights were out, some stains on a lampshade, A/C unit couldn't be adjusted, tiles missing in the shower, no soap, no hangars posted wifi password was wrong... there's more, but you get the idea. Two days after starting my stay I come back around midnight and there's a note posted on the outside of the door saying my keys are at their other property and they are so sorry (it's not clear for what). I HAD my keys so assumed they had given me a different room. I went to their other property several blocks away and the people there had an envelope that had another copy of my own keys in it (the same room I already was in) - but had no other information. Apparently the manager of my property had gotten confused thinking the keys they had at the desk were mine and thought I was locked out. So... the upshot is that they didn't have track of the number and location of the keys to my room. That's scary! Who else has keys to my room??? Amazingly cavalier with security.

San Telmo is a great place to stay, and Hotel Babel in a perfect location close to cafes, restaurants, bars and the market. Easy walking into Centro, La Boca and to Puerto Madero. Small and pleasant hotel that has become a bit run down and service a bit haphazard. But given that we would stay there again because of its location.

Friendly, small hotel in San Telmo
Friendly, helpful staff. All clean, though slightly dated. Comfy bed and fresh, light breakfast buffet. Quirky hotel with many nice restaurants nearby. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it.

Hotel Babel's experience
Andréa and Paul from the reception are the best part of the hotel. First nite I had a noisy nite specially if you stay close to the door for the first doors. Avoid to stay close to the door! The area is nice and yiu will be close to Puerto Madero and the sundau's fair.

Comfortable and friendly hotel close to San Telmo
Excellent location in near to all the action in San Telmo but still on a fairly quiet street (apart from the rubbish collection at 4am). Very friendly and helpful staff. We were in room 9 overlooking the street; most of the rooms are around a central courtyard. Our room was looking a little dated, especially the bathroom, which was poorly lit. The bed was comfortable. Pretty happy with this hotel overall.

IN LOVE!
I LOVED my stay at the Hotel Babel. I had been in BA for a week for work, and was exhausted and looking for something low-key, but still comfortable, stylish, and friendly - the Hotel Babel was perfect. My room was just as pictured, and felt trendy without sacrificing comfort or security. The furnishings were all in great shape, and the room came with everything I needed and nothing I didn't. The location is prime within BA, and certainly within San Telmo (1 block from the San Telmo market!). I like to walk, and was able to walk everywhere I wanted to - including to the Recoleta neighborhood. I had heard that the area could be a little sketchy at night, but I never felt unsafe or had any issues, even when walking late at night in the dark to a Tango club 20 minutes away. Having breakfast at the hotel every morning (for a minimal cost) was great and allowed me to start my mornings in less of a rush; the food was simple but delicious, and certainly left me full until much later in the day. There was even a little pot of dulce de leche on every table - what a treat! Finally - the staff. They are nothing short of amazing. I met three different staff members during my 3-night stay, and all of them were young, warm, and welcoming. They all spoke English fluently, and were happy to give suggestions for restaurants in the area, walking directions, fun things to do, arrange for a taxi, etc. when asked. They were incredible, and are one of the best parts of the hotel! I will be back!

Convenient and stylish boutique hotel.
The hotel is located in the heart of San Telmo, and is well decorated and organised. The décor is done in very good taste, and it is also quite practical. We travelled with an infant, and while the rooms are on the small side, our son was quite happy to play in the patio and lobby. The staff are wonderful and were very kind to our son.

Awesome place, not for everyone.
We stayed here a week. The staff were awesome. The hotel is a bit beat up and hot water in the shower was hit or miss. If you're a light sleeper, you do not want a room along the street as you'll hear everything (cars/people). Breakfast was good. The hotel is close to fabulous things all around San Telmo and a great cafe on the corner (Pride). They advertise a lobby bar but that is rather non-existent. Wifi is strongest in the lobby but we could still check email in the room. Interesting local art for sale in the lobby. I'd go back!

Good hotel overall. Nice, chic decoration. Room was comfortable. The only thing inconvenient is that, because of the security reason, you need the hotel staff to open the door for you every time you want to get in & out. San Telmo is a nice area. We didn't feel unsafe walking around even at night. However, the streets were quite dirty and full of dogs' poops.

Pleasantly surprised by unique and cosy atmosphere. Totally shocked to find our assigned room dirty and made bed with soiled sheets including hair! Quickly assigned a new room which was cleaner but again bed made with dirty sheets including hair. Thankfully sheets were white so condition was obvious. No other room available so we had to remake bed with supposedly clean sheets only to find they were not. Asked for more clean sheets which at last we found to be properly laundered. This could have been an enjoyable stay had housekeeping not been so abhorant and dishonest. Can not recommend until this is totally rectified. Night manager did offer bottle of wine for our inconvenience.

Excellent modern hotel with great location
Lovely little hotel, rooms and breakfast were both excellent, staff were very helpful, polite and friendly. Location was great, easy to get to the docklands, La Boca and also the subway to reach other areas like Palermo. Would 100% stay here again if ever back in the area

What a great hotel
Very nice hotel in great area. Couldn't say enough nice things about the people at the front desk. Miguel, Oscar and Aloe we're extremely friendly and helpful. I highly recommend staying here. The rooms are very nice and the location is perfect. Try nacional for a great meal nearby. You'll truly love this hotel, and it's a great value right now.

Hotel Babel Boutique a wonderful experience
The Hotel Babel Boutique is a small, cosy Hotel. It is ideally situated surrounded by a number of top class restaurants. The accommodation is first class and personal. There are only 9 rooms. The breakfast is sufficient and the wyfy excellent. The staff are friendly and helpful. They made an impression on us as a family. I can recommend this hotel without any reservation.

Hotel Babel does have easy access to San Telmo, but doesn't quite hit the mark on room cleanliness or room decor. The bathroom lighting is weak, making shaving a bit of a chore. But don't get me wrong, as it is quiet enough and the staff is a lot of fun. The only real downside was the recommended but over-priced taxi driver, who showed up late and with a car that reeked of cigarettes (and so did I after the long trip to the airport). In summary, it's a great price, fun staff, perfect San Telmo location, but the room may not be the most appealing. This might be accommodation best suited to those under 40 years of age.

Scammers ousite hotel Babel :-(
Just before getting to the hotel we were hit by the paint scam just outside the hotel & they got away with my credit cards/DL/ & Medical card with some cash. When we entered the lobby the clerk knew exactly what had happened & said that that is is tourist scam & there was info in the room but it was too late for us. Be very careful in that area.

Boutique hotel with very helpful staff
Easy to walk to this hotel from the main downtown area. Close to the plaza cafes and eateries, and also Puerto Madera with all it's more high end restaurants. The room was spacious and clean, hot water works in the shower, very comfortable bed! The staff were all friendly and very helpful. They even helped us book our long distance buses! Good breakfast with eggs and French toast available on request.

Very helpful, friendly staff. Superb breakfast. Spacious room and bathroom. Handy to everything. We enjoyed the 4 days before our cruise very much. Tango demonstrations in the plazas, street art everywhere. Our room with small balcony overlooked the street, but aircon could be used when shutters closed at night. Wifi good.

We were very pleased with our stay. Breakfast was great, and I can't say enough about the staff. They even lent us a bus pass. What ever we asked, and we were there for over seven days, they took care of.One suggestion would be to put an easy chair in the room. Wifi was fast. Room was clean, and I liked the courtyard. They have a book exchange which I used.

We stayed in Hotel Babel recently for 4 nights during our trip to Buenos Aires. The hotel is conveniently located in the heart of San Telmo and the staff was friendly and helpful in suggesting restaurants/things to do. We stayed in a courtyard room originally and found it to be extremely cold at night so we requested the interior room which was much better in terms of temperature control. The rooms itself could use an upgrade, from rust in the bathroom to thinning linens it was a bit rouch around the edges.

Decent boutique hotel with character
I spent 4 nights at Babel in mid June and overall it was a pleasant stay, although not super convenient. It's located in the heart of San Telmo which is nice as there's a lot to do and explore in the area and it's also central enough to get to other nice parts of the city. There's a great restaurant called Cafe Rivas around the corner and also close to a popular Tango spot (forgetting the name). The staff is very friendly and helpful but also quite small - I think there are only like 9 rooms in the entire hotel. Breakfast is decent but not too elaborate. Unfortunately there is no laundry service which I found inconvenient although there is a laundromat about 4 blocks away which I used. Rooms are clean and fairly basic although there is a touch of character with the colonial architecture. Overall I would recommend thus hotel as a value play bit not foot someone looking for more luxury & convenience.

Not exactly what I expected
This hotel was not quite what I expected in terms of comfort and cleanliness. Our room was not super clean--they didn't even remove the used shampoo bottles from our shower, there was still water on the bathroom floor, and it needed a fresh dusting. The room was VERY dim, especially the bathroom. I get that some hotels want to promote a certain ambiance, but when I can't even see the makeup I'm putting on my face because it's so dim, I consider it an inconvenience. There were a lot of noises in the middle of the night, and at one point I thought someone was coming into our room, so I didn't feel too secure in it. The staff were helpful enough but not exuding friendliness. The breakfast was better than expected, however--they served us eggs made to order in addition to fruit, cereal, toast, etc., which we hadn't always been getting at other hotels that served breakfast.
