A Day at the Races
Ascot in Berkshire is renowned for its famous racecourse, attracting thousands of visitors per year. If you enjoy horseracing then plan your visit carefully around the racing calendar and experience Ascot in all of its glory on race day. The nearby Thorpe Park gives reason to bring the family to Ascot it is one of the most popular theme parks in England. With a variety of roller-coaster rides for the fearless and other amusement activities there is something for everyone to make this a family day out.
If you are a fan of stately homes then the exquisite Highclere Castle will not disappoint. It’s home to the popular TV series Downton Abbey, and a visit to the Egyptian Exhibition is a must too. A visit here makes for an enjoyable afternoon with pretty gardens to explore as well.
Visit Eton College
Eton, another of Berkshire’s towns, founded on the opposite bank of the Thames River as Windsor, has both historic and commercial importance. It is impossible to think of Eton without reference to its famous public school, Eton College. Founded in 1441 by Henry IV, it has schooled kings, princes and many prime ministers of England. Take a guided tour and learn the history of this unique building and some stories of its now famous past pupils.
In the far west of Berkshire, alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal, is the charming market town of Hungerford. Situated amidst beautiful countryside with a range of warm and friendly country pubs to tempt you can easily lose yourself here for a couple of hours. Aside from its antique shops and fairs, the town boasts unique handcraft shops, providing the opportunity to take something home from your time spent in Berkshire.
