We were really looking for a nice hotel that had easy access for parking, but go so much more! The Convent Hotel is a small boutique hotel that doesn't let its quirkiness get in the way of practicality. The decoration is playful with the building's history (I'm not sure the nuns would approve). It's well located in Grey Lynn, and while they don't offer breakfast, great cafés like Postal Service just a few minutes away. Ponsonby is about 20 minutes or so walk, and there are bus stops just outside for easy access into the CBD and beyond.
We had one of the smaller rooms with a balcony. The balcony looks onto the flats next door, but curtains on the area itself, as well as blind on the windows, mean you have as much privacy as you could want but still get to enjoy the extra space. The room didn't feel too tight with the comfortable bed, decent size wardrobe. The bathroom, with shower, feels quite ample for a room this size.
The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, as are the team at the bar and Ada restaurant downstairs, which I'd recommend as well. Say hello to their cat, appropriately named Carpark, if you go!
