Friendly staff. Great with giving area recommendations. Hotel is in a great location. An easy walk to everything. Room could use some updates. Very small. Bed was against the wall so sleeper on that side could not easily get up. Was very small for 2 people to share. Being able to open door to a balcony helped.

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Clayton Hotel Amsterdam, it is a great location for goong to the museums, canal tours or going to nice restaurants. The hotel is clean, modern and the staff are very helpful and friendly. We asked to move room due to the noise from city workmen repairing the pavement below us and they found us another room with no fuss. Woukd definitely stay again!

I liked its location and found it convenient to walk to the museum quarter close by. I was pleasantly surprised to be offered an upgrade from a deluxe room that I had originally booked. However, I noticed a musty smell in the new room. Also, there was an irritating, bubbling noise coming from one of the washbasins. Despite letting the reception aware of this, I heard nothing from them afterwards. I was surprised by the lack of slippers, bathrobes, shaving and dental kits given Clayton was a four star hotel. I later read similar points raised in other reviews. Apparently, I should have made requests for such items at the reception. I feel I should have been advised of this at the time of booking in. All in all, Clayton is a lovely hotel but I feel the reception staff could have done a little more than just a routine welcome with request for sight of my passport and immediate payment of city tax and refundable security deposit.

Canals at your doorstep, walking around to see the sights, shop, visit attractions etc. The Clayton has these things. Our room had a balcony overlooking the canal and the location had easy access to everything we wanted. It was clean, the staff were responsive and friendly and their restaurant was excellent, both inside as well as an outdoor cafe with a corner street location, great for people watching. I would like to stay there again. We rented bikes for a day at the hotel and it was an adventure but try and grow some eyes in the back of your head because bikes, people and cars (but mostly bicycles) come at you from all directions and there are no apparent rules of the road. At intersections it comes down to a game of chicken and my advice is to be the chicken and survive.

This is a fantastic hotel and we have been coming here a number of years, however it has changed its name 3 times since we started to stay here. It is still the American Hotel to us and the astounding history should be respected by all the new owners as I am sure the do and will. It is situated in an excellent location of the vibrant Leidseplien.

Great hotel, wonderful staff! We got there very early and our check-in was at 3. They did offer a different room, at the same price. But we had reserved a canal view room with a balcony and decided to wait. It was worth waiting for. Nice and quiet, with an amazing water view. We were there for King's Day ( not on purpose). There were about 1,000 people out front with a great DJ. The whole city is in party mode. It was fine, but glad our room room was along the river in back.

The location is perfect. The room and view of the canal can’t be beat. Dining and pubs are very close and an easy walk. The area felt safe and secure.

This was a great hotel close to some lovely restaurants and bars. Tram point very close. Rooms were a good size with great facilities. Very quiet and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

I found the staff in the restaurant to be incredibly rude. Upon checking in there was zero care for how they could help you during your stay. To place our bags on hold while our room was getting ready seemed to be an inconvenience. As a guest I felt like an “inconvenience” with the staff, but the bed was comfortable and the view was nice. Large price tags aren’t always worth it.

Quite disappointing experience considering this is a 4.5 star hotel. Our bathroom smells like public bathroom with urine scent. View from balcony is nice but you can hear trains and people parting all night. We did not get slippers or robes in our room. And when we asked the front desk they did not have the slippers with them and had to go to the storage to get it. They are helpful of course but just always seemed so busy. Maybe it is short staffed here. It wasn’t a pleasant stay and we decided to leave early and not staying for the last night. The front desk didn’t even ask how was our stay, was everything ok, or why were we leaving the night before check out. I do like the smart TV and the speaker in the room. The hotel bar looks nice but we didn’t get a chance to try. The hotel has a lot of potentials, but unfortunately didn’t work out for us at all.

We were only there to sightsee for 24 hours and the location could not have been better for it. Everything was walkable and the bus from the airport was so easy. The staff was incredibly kind and attentive, and the room was spacious and clean. We’ll definitely stay there on a return trip!

NOT WORTH THE MONEY
booked a superior room - a 2 weeks before holiday asked if i wanted to upgrade to deluxe for e40 - seems superior IS NOT DELUKE ON ARRIVAL i was given a room that I KNOW WAS NOT SUPERIOR - I HAD STAYED THERE BEFORE. I went to the concerge and was told IT IS A SUPERIOR ROOM THE TV WAS AT THE END OF THE BED WITH ABOUT 15 INCHES / 40 CM TO PASS AND I HAD TO TAKE CARE TOT TO HIT THE TV 1 of the lifts was out of order from the first day - on day 3 the out of order lift door was open I TRIED TO ENTER THE LIFT WHED A PORTER SAID IT IS OUT OF ORDER FOR GUESTS - HE THEN PUT A CRATE OF TOWELS IN IT - THIS OVER NEWYEAR PROBABLY THE BUSIEST TIME IN THE HOTEL I PAYED £1200 / ABOUT E 1500 FOR 4 NIGHTS WOULD I STAY HERE AGAIN - NO - NO there are just as good if not better hotels 200 - 300 yards / metres for ABOUT THE SAME MONEY - NH - PARK - MARRIOTT since sold by hard rock IT SEEMS TO HAVE GONE DOWN QUICKLY
