We left the property as we couldn’t stay, my daughter (4yrs old) couldn’t sleep so are we, due to bugs and lizards in the room. Very poorly maintained and totally unhygienic. The open Bathroom was terrible and we never used. I had requested refund for the days we didn’t stay. Please coordinate and do the needful.

Very friendly staff, good South Indian food, close to shikara and house boat rides, traditional Kerala architecture of buildings. Very good Ayurvedic massage - that made my wife and I sleep for 12 hours straight. If you dont mind the 2 hour taxi ride from Cochin airport (like we did) - this is a great place to rest and re-energize.

Relaxing Weekend Getaway
The stay was amazing and the staff were hospitable. However, we had booked for a 2 day stay at the garden villa, but they had overbooked and were able to provide us only with a single day stay. To make up for the discomfort, they upgraded us to their premium villa with private pool and a free houseboat ride for an hour. It turned out to be a relaxing weekend. The restaurant is great and the food tasted great. More choices for dessert would have been better.

Beautifully designed resort, once you get to it. Remote, small residential unpaved alleys, poorly marked from main road is the only vehicular access to it unfortunately. Lovely, clean cottages and rooms with unique open air bathrooms enhanced our eco friendly experience; I appreciated it, but probably not for those unprepared for the mosquito attack whenever you use the toilet. I just attacked back! Our biggest disappointment was the food quality at the only restaurant at the resort. If you are looking for typical touristy food, you'll be fine. Being the hometown of my deceased father, we were very familiar with traditional cuisine. Located on the bay waters, we hoped for a variety of fresh seafood, cooked authentic local cuisine style. Our experience was sadly contrary. The restaurant is definitely setup to encourage their buffets offerings, which offered mostly non-Kerala cuisine and very limited seafood. When we tried A la carte orders, the taste and freshness of fish was lacking, which is not what one expects at a higher end resort as Punnamada. It seemed the cooks were best at non-local cuisine. I hope they improve and explore unique opportunity available by location. We watched fisherman pass by daily with their fresh catches of the day. Why not support them? Visiting tourists would gladly pay a premium for freshly caught local seafood. My fav part of the resort was Yoga and massage. I learned a lot from yoga instructor Mr. Pradeep, who was excellent teacher!

Cute resort but bit pricey.
The stay was good especially the free boat ride in the evening and yoga session in the morning. It was an unexpected pleasant surprise.

Failed to meet expectations. In need of a lot of maintenance. Food was sub-par. They originally agreed to give me a late check out, but then the day of told me someone else was arriving so i they needed my room and i needed to leave. The place was mostly empty so i think they just couldn't be bothered with my request (that they already agreed to).

Value-for-money stay
The best part of our stay was the in-house restaurant by the lake/backwaters. Food was fab and we had one of the best appom and coffees in south of India. Our garden villas were generally clean and comfy but because they were nestled in nature, there were a lot of bugs and mozzies despite the cool weather. That said, the hotel recep is happy to provide you with insect repellant cream any time and the beds came with a net to keep those flying creatures out. At the point of arrival, there was a lot of construction going on, so it seemed like the place was a bit of a mess but as you venture further into the pty, the rustic greenery puts you at ease. They have plenty of games and activities; from tennis/badminton courts to foosball and ping-pong. Don't miss the complimentary sunset cruise!

Great grounds, poorly trained staff
An extremely sour end to a nice stay at your resort. 28 minutes to check out and pay extras because of unprepared and seemingly untrained reception staff. When it takes 28 minutes to check out the only guests staying in the hotel, you know it's time to think about your processes and training. Don't make a guest wait while you hunt for 40 rupees change and then ask that guest if they can provide the exact 3740 amount - just wipe off the 40 ruppees When we also questioned why a 100 ruppee bottle of water we had asked for with our breakfast had appeared on our bill I was told, "No!" and "this is a five star resort price" as if that made it okay. Even more concerning given it is a 4 star hotel... I guess the customer isn't always right after all.

Good hotel but not value for money
The resort was very pretty, with a nice pool and gardens. However, the room itself was a little tired. We visited during monsoon season and after we'd checked in we were told none of the activities (boat trips etc) were possible due to the weather. This was disappointing as from the resort you could see other hotels were offering these experiences still. The restaurant was amazing, serving delicious fish curries and a good breakfast with very welcoming staff. Overall we felt the hotel was overpriced considering lots of the experiences were not available. On top of this, we were disappointed to find that after spending a lot of money on the room and food there, we were charged nearly £7 for a glass water bottle that we accidentally broke. Whilst we were happy to cover the cost of this, the bottle itself was worth very little and no bill was provided for this. A beautiful resort, but not great value for money.

The Ultimate Lakeside Resort
This is my second time to Punnamada and I am anxious to go back for a third. The location is far enough from town to offer tranquility, but close enough for convenience. The Lakeside rooms are worth every extra rupee. The staff will jump over the moon to please you without making a big production. Each and every one is wonderful.

Great experience. Would be even fair to call this a heritage property considering the detail in the village. Very good staff and they deliver with a personal touch. Must stay here to get a real feel of the Kerela heritage.

Good resort to stay in serenity
If you are planning for a relaxed and a laid-back holiday in Allepey resorts then Punnamada resort is one of the best options with a calm neighborhood. We stayed there for two nights; the resort was traditional and they excel in providing a good service, Ayurveda massage and food. The resort is on the lake bed and we liked the everyday evening shikara ride for about an hour and on return they server us hot tea in the lake front. The authentic Angamali Shrimp gravy that I had for lunch was awesome and it’s a must try with their aappam.

Very scenic location, nice and courteous staff.
We stayed there one night and then spent one night on their houseboat cruise. Life time experience for both. Great staff, good cuisine, professional. The ayurvedic center can use some training of staff and doc. The therapist was trying to make a conversation during the treatment which wasn't relaxing. It took me a while to get comfortable. They should explain the treatment first and tell you what they are going to do next instead of surprising you. The overall treatment was therapeutic.

Great grass field with view of lake. Pool ok but sharp edges caused many cuts on my children's feet. Outdated rooms still ok but bathroom outdoors was not the most relaxing setup, especially as it had a heavy door which was hard to open. Punna what?
Ok check in, despite the woman speaking too & being asked to slow down multiple times. Tried to take us into someone else's room until I pointed out the shoes at the door & different numbered key. Twin room looked more like a school dorm when nets down, had to sit with torches to see. Powerpoints in room could not hold anything in them, points kept falling out. Had to get reception to charge phones etc. Free boat ride with tea & treats was not a highlight. Mosquitos everywhere & we were completely ignored and not given anything despite other families receiving double. Skipped the ride after this. Had dinner in hotel, raw chicken which waiter acknowledged, took it away & never apologised etc. other food looked disgusting - fruits & desserts all sitting out unrefrigerated etc. Had bread & spread carried in our own luggage. Got to bedtime, twin beds both rock hard & one mattress stained (large) & visible through sheet. Outdoor shower not practical with mosquitos around - quickest (cold shower) possible. Again, stained towels. Decided at that point our two night stay would be shortened to one night - flights changed to return to Mumbai the following day. Filled in nps survey upon check out, completed all this detail & receptionist simply smiled & nodded.

Its an amazing hotel tucked away facing the lake. I loved the Aapams and the Mini Fishing Net. The facilities needed to be updated such as A/C & The Shower Head However it was a peaceful environment and the one room house boat was stunning

One of our best experiences ever all due to the staff at the resort. The staff went out of their way to assust and please. Cooking classes , yoga and evening tea were complimentary. The villa was cisy and lived the outdoor bathroom.

Nice small resort in the backwaters area
We spent there 3 nights, on April 2015. The resort is really nice, staff very welcoming and the location is great. Restaurant and extras a little bit too expensive if we think about the cost of life in India, I strongly suggestion to grab a taxi and having dinner in Alappey (15 minutes from the resort). Really lovely complimentary canal cruise at sunset.

If only more boats...
The resort is great for a relaxing stay with family, friends, or couples. The food was traditional Kerala, and very delicious. All the staff were really attentive - getting us beers and wine to the room even on a dry day. The only thing was that they don't have that many boats, it seems. The resort was full and the boats booked up in advance, which we didn't know. But I saw the boats sitting on the dock for a few hours before the group that booked it used them. There should be an option to book for only one hour, a few hours, or the whole day - and they should say even if you rent the whole day, if you don't use it within the first hour, it will be rented out to others until you plan to use it, or something like that. The pool where we chilled was nice, though there were a lot of ants and some crows that got in the food after we sat it down for even five minutes. But, overall, very relaxing stay.

Besides lake view this hotel is not worth the money. The rooms are smelly and dark. Mattresses smelt of urin and bathroom was open and can be more clean. The water from shower runs in to the ground leading to a rising damp in the room wall. The access to the hotel is from a narrow winding unattractive back passage. The hotel had fly problems in the restaurant areas at night.

We arrived at night. Reception area was all lit up with candles. Quite big open air reception area with pond. We were taken to our rooms( they call them villas) ,very clean,very comfortable. In the morning woke up to a wonderful view. Nice spread for breakfast. I invited a few (10) friends for dinner one evening and the hotel laid out a super dinner. Everybody said it was the best dinner they had in india. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel

Stayed in a lake facing room for one night. The view from this room was awesome. You get an unblocked view of the majestic Punnamada lake. In the morning you can see the house boats pass by. Took a speed boat ride arranged by the resort. This was really lovely as we covered a great swath of the lake and could see the famed Paddy field below the water level. Had dinner at the restaurant, the karimeen (Pearl spot) pollichathu was really succulent and the fresh scampi was grilled to perfection. Overall an excellent stay. Will surely come back for an extended stay. Lovely place.

Amazing resort with great accommodation, food & staff. Punnamada is an exceptional place to stay & unwind. The only thing that marred our experience was that the pool was having maintenance work being done to it, so we couldn't use it during our stay. Overall though, exceptional

Stayed in the duplex facing the pool 2 nights 7/7 - 7/9 by myself. Everything was so comfortable during my stay, smooth checking-in, very nice, clean room in a traditional 2 storied house, WiFi everywhere, Ayurveda massage, a day trip arrangement to a temple and the beach etc. The location is very good, on the beautiful lake side, and easy access to Alleppey town. Even I enjoyed cycling to the town. Every staff here is so nice, friendly, and kind. They never let up in their efforts to make my staying experience better and more comfortable. Even staff played table tennis and billiard with me when raining and I could not go outside. I would definitely come back to this hotel with my family if I visit Kerala again!

Don't Stay at this Hotel!
I was on my honeymoon during a trip to this hotel where I had stayed in a variety of hotels from 3*-5* and I have to be honest and say this just about deserved 1*. The room it's self was nice enough and resturant for breakfast/lunch/dinner was ok but nothing special. What was a bitter disapointment was the hotel pool, the service or lack of should I say and the bad maintance and mangament of the hotel. firstly the Pool wasn't working and looked like it had been out of order for ages, due to the hotel not being near beach this was our only way to cool down in the heat of the 43 degrees sun and we couldn't. They apparently fixed it on the day we left but I wouldn't have even put my toe in it, it was still so dirty and don't be fooled by the pictures on the website, it doesn't look like this at all. The general service was so bad that we had to call for a "Manager" just to get some spare towels when sun bathing and even then the manager didn't really seem bother by the lack of service. The whole resort looked old and tired and as if it was closed. The huts were shabby and as we were lying in the sun trying to relax there were people on the roof of the huts banging and drilling, it's as if it the hotel wasn't even open yet it and it was height of season when we were there at the end of March. For us this was 3 waisted days in a rubbish hotel, don't waist you time or money on this place it's needs to be under new management!

Gorgeous retreat
My husband and I were unfortunate to be ill on arrival. The staff were helpful, pleasant and friendly, ensuring we were as comfortable as possible. As frustrating as it was to be ill, it was an idyllic location to pass the time and recuperate! The food was delicious, well cooked and everything was immaculate. The only thing that wasn't perfect was the pool, some of the brickwork was crumbling an the tiles left the water looking decidedly murky. I understand there are already plans to renovate that area.

Lovely location. Amazing view from Lakeside Villa. Loved the al fresco shower arrangement. Very comfortable bed. Nice touch to put fresh flowers on bed cover at the beginning of our stay. Friendy staff. Enjoyed entertainment provided every evening.

A wonderful get away
This is a lovely resort - very tranquil, with beautiful, traditional style buildings and a fabulous setting. We particularly enjoyed the sunset boat trip on the lake, swimming pool, the colonial style games room (with snooker, pool, ping pong and various other games), bikes to ride and a basket ball hoop - lots for all the family to do without 'breaking the spell' of this unspoilt spot. The lake view rooms are lovely - well worth the extra. The food is pretty average and quite pricey - but i guess that's to be expected at a resort.

Nice hotel overlooking beautiful lake
This is a beautiful hotel, set in a beautiful location. The rooms are lovely and the staff are very friendly and helpful. My only criticism is it is a bit remote, down a very narrow bumpy road so you always need transport to get out and about (tuk tuk about 100 rupees into town).. The hotel would also benefit from another restaurant.

The hotel is brilliant, the staff is very attentive and location is good. Rooms are comfortable. We liked our 4 poster bed and pool view from our two storey villa. We also enjoyed most of complimentary activities- riding bikes, canoeing, having boat ride, swimming pool and table tennis. We stayed there during Christmas break and the prices were double of normal. AS a nasty surprise came additional 5% service charge on all bill, plus 23% service charges on already quite pricey ayurveda massage bills ( not mentioned before!). Overall rating 5 stars.

A Peaceful Retreat in a Sleepy Town
Our first impression in the dark night that we arrived in, was enough to blow us away. Tucked away in a sleepy town, Punnamada Resorts was a beautiful experience. There is really nothing much to do there, but we were more than happy to just relax and laze around the small resort and our double story house after a hectic pilgrimage tour around Tamil Nadu! Against the backdrops of the scenic backwaters, blue blue skies and the kind and helpful staffs of Punnamada Resort, we felt like the kings and queens of the world!
