Nai Harn Beach

Nai Harn Beach is one of Phuket’s most picturesque beaches. Its pristine sands bordered on two-sides by lush rainforest-covered hills, and the clear sea is perfect for swimming and snorkelling. Nai Harn is popular with locals, and consequently has a more residential atmosphere than other destinations. Unlike at other beaches, you’ll find no large resorts here. Although known for its peace and tranquillity, it is only a short journey away from the busy nightspots such as Patong.

The Samnak Song Nai Harn Monastery, located just behind the beach, owns much of the land in this area. It is still occupied by monks, and if you are up early, you will see the local villagers paying their respects and donating food. Dress appropriately if going inside, and do remember to take off your shoes before entering.

If you wish to relax on the beach, sun loungers and parasols are available to rent for the day. The sea is warm and calm between November and May, providing safe swimming conditions. At other times of the year, the waves are higher, perfect for bodyboarding. If surfing is more your thing, head out towards the permanent sandbank at the southern end of the beach where you’ll find waves all year round.

The waters off this beach provide some of the best snorkelling and diving spots in Phuket, especially in front of the Royal Phuket Yacht Club. Many diving tours are on offer, or snorkelling equipment can be rented at the many nearby outlets.

There is a freshwater lagoon close to the south end of the beach, known as Nai Harn Lake. It is a popular spot for picnics, cycling and jogging. The island at the centre has a children’s playground – hire a paddleboat to reach it and enjoy the tranquil setting. Stop off at one of the bars or restaurants along the northeast side to relax and refuel.

Nai Harn Beach is in the south of Phuket, approximately one hour’s drive from the International Airport.
