Dieppe

From skiing and hiking to biking and snow shoeing, the rich natural environment of this southern Canadian town has many ways to experience the outdoors.

With its green spaces and close proximity to two national parks, Dieppe is a great place for year-round outdoor adventures. Ski, hike, cycle and snowshoe along miles of trails.

Dieppe's origins lie in the 18th century and has been known as French Village and Leger's Corner. In 1946 it was named after the French town of Dieppe to honor the Canadian soldiers who died there during World War II.

If you like to get active outdoors, then Dieppe should have what you're looking for. For starters, there are more than 34 miles (55 kilometers) of walking and bike trails. Head over to Rotary St-Anselme Park for year-round activities. During the warmer weather, there are trails for cycling and walking. In the winter, cross-country ski, snowshoe and ice skate.

Among the city’s other popular green spaces is Dover Park. Play soccer on one of the fields and work up a sweat on the exercise stations. Golfers can practice their shots on the fairways of Fox Creek Golf Club.

Cycle by peat bogs and saltwater lagoons at Kouchibouguac National Park and see the world’s largest tides at Fundy National Park. Here you can also hike along more than 62 miles (100 kilometers) of trails. Take a break from your exertions at Parlee Beach.

Dieppe is a convenient base from which to explore some of the region’s most fascinating attractions. Visit Pays de la Sagouine, a coastal village inspired by the imagination of author Antonine Maillet. See bizarre rock shapes at Hopewell Rocks, let your car roll uphill at Magnetic Hill and enjoy family fun at Magic Mountain Waterpark.

Return to Dieppe to browse the galleries of Dieppe Arts and Cultural Centre. On Saturdays, by fresh local produce at the Marché de Dieppe Market.

Situated in Westmorland County, Dieppe is easily be reached by rail, road and air. Greater Moncton International Airport is less than 4 miles (6.5 kilometers) away. Get around by taxi, car or bus and let the area excite you with its scenery and outdoor pursuits.
