Stratosphere Tower

Las Vegas's tallest structure is a great place to see the city from a unique vantage point.

Rising some 350 metres above the Las Vegas Strip, this iconic fixture of the cityscape (part of the Stratosphere Casino and Hotel) is the perfect spot from which to look out and admire an unparalleled view of the city and the surrounding valley.

When you reach the top of the tower you can hop on board four different thrill rides. Big Shot is the highest ride of its kind on Earth, sending you more than 300 metres in the air at speeds over 70 kilometres per hour. Or, to truly experience the height, you can get on the X-Scream roller coaster, which shoots you eight metres over the edge of the casino’s tower.

The thrills don't end there! The signature ride is SkyJump Las Vegas, which sends you on a 260-metre bungee leap from the top of the tower, making it the tallest controlled free fall in the world. Or try the Insanity coaster, with its mechanical arm that takes you over the edges of the tower at angles of up to 70 degrees.

For a more stationary experience, head for the outdoor and indoor observation decks and marvel at the panoramic views far out towards the desert. On the 103rd floor you'll find couples tying the knot at the famous Chapel in the Clouds. Up at the Air Bar on the 108th floor, make sure you savour the popular signature cocktail – this delicious blend of melon liqueur, rum, amaretto, peach schnapps and fresh orange juice is known tellingly as Jet Fuel, and served in a souvenir cup.

Feeling hungry? Then head for the Level 107 Lounge, the Sandwich Carvery 108 or the Tower Pizzeria. Alternatively, take a table at the revolving 'Top of the World' restaurant, which sits nearly 250 metres above the pavement.

Situated to the north of The Strip, you can easily reach Stratosphere by taking the monorail, the public bus and mini-bus shuttles. Ask at your hotel reception for details on day passes for public transport. The tower, as well as the rides, stays open until late in the evening.
