Any nearby attractions: Poovar Island Take a fun trip off the mainland, to this beautiful, quiet island, with several amazing monuments on it.

What/where to eat: 3rd Rock Cafe Located on the beach side of Kovalam, this restaurant is popular for its open kitchen layout where you can watch the chef preparing your food. The Indian curry, prawn masala and seafood dishes are known to be the best on the menu.

Varkala

What to do: Surf School.

Activities in the area: Classes are available for all ages and standards. A really fun family activity as all will enjoy trying to catch a few waves.(8+).

Any nearby attractions: Anchuthengu and Anjengo Fort The Fort is over 300 years old and was used to help ships dock. Visit and learn about some of the history of the area.

What/where to eat: Clafouti An absolutely beautiful restaurant, with 5 star quality Indian and international meals. It has a great atmosphere and a balcony where you can enjoy the beautiful view of Varkala beach.

The Puri beach

What to do: Lake Tours.

Activities in the area: Book a tour to discover the nearby lakes. Prices are reasonable and it's a really fun day out.

Any nearby attractions: Sun Temple Over 600 years old, this beautiful temple has several tours going round it a day and it's well worth it to pick up some history.

What/where to eat: The Gajapati The Gajapati is the best spot for local cuisine, from Onion Masala dosa to fried Idli's.

Juhu beach

What to do: Horse and Camel Rides.

Activities in the area: Head down to Juhu beach and enjoy a leisurely camel ride along the sand with beautiful views out to sea. (5+)

Any nearby attractions: Kanheri Caves Over 2,000 years old these Buddhist caves are an amazing attraction and absolutely beautiful. We recommend you take every chance you get to see these caves.

Aksa beach

What to do: Water Kingdom.

Activities in the area: A day of adventure rides! Children will love this day out with a whole days worth of rides and activities.

Any nearby attractions: Iskcon Temple An amazing temple that is worth visiting for the awe-inspiring art held in the temple as well as the religious importance that it holds.

Baga beach

What to do: Water Sports.

Activities in the area: Companies offer a long list of activities based in the water, from water polo to banana boating there is fun for all. (10+)

Any nearby attractions: St. Alex Church A Portuguese built church that is over 400 years old. The building is an amazing piece of architecture and is well worth the visit.

What/where to eat: Fire and Ice The restaurant is famous for its brilliant service and friendly staff, as well as its tasty Indian and Chinese dishes. We recommend trying the Chicken Sweet Corn soup, Chilli Marinated Mackerel with Guacamole and Crispy Chicken N Honey Sauce.

Calangute beach

What to do: Snorkelling.

Activities in the area: A really fun activity for the family and a good way to get up close to some underwater creatures. See the beautiful sights under the water.

Any nearby attractions: Tibetan Market A great place to pick up some souvenirs from your stay, including some beautiful, unique jewellery.

What/where to eat: Infantaria This is a very popular place in the area, therefore book the table in advance. The restaurant offers a great variety of Continental, Goan, Indian and Italian cuisines, and the recommended dishes in the menu are: fresh juices selection, Goan Chilli Fry, Jinga Masala, Lobster and Crab.

What to do: Diving Classes.

Activities in the area: No matter your ability there are lessons available. Learn how to navigate the deep ocean and spot some beautiful underwater sites whilst doing it. (12+)

Any nearby attractions: Anjuna Market When going to Anjuna you have to visit the local market. Very reasonable prices for a variety of things from clothes to souvenirs to food. There are exciting unique pieces to be discovered here.

What/where to eat: Artjuna Garden Café Provides a great setting and warm welcome. Perfect place to go for fresh juices, sandwiches, fish fillet, chicken Shashlik and organic salads.

Palolem beach

What to do: Rent a Bike.

Activities in the area: A fantastic and cheap way to get around as a family. Plan your own trips around the area both on and off road.

Any nearby attractions: Palolem Main Road It's a great place to go shopping and pick up your holiday souvenirs with some beautiful and reasonably priced trinkets and gifts.

What/where to eat: Dropadi The Goan Shrimp Curry and Chicken Hyderabadi are the most recommended dishes at this reasonably priced and very tasty restaurant.

Best time to visit: March Visit Palolem Beach in March to avoid the start of hot season, where it can get a bit sticky and uncomfortable.

Arambol beach

What to do: Dolphin Hunting.

Activities in the area: Not hunting in the harmful way, but rather a fun chase where you will be able to get a good view of the dolphins. If you are lucky you can see them from the shore but a short boat ride out to sea and you should see a good few.

Any nearby attractions: Paliem Lake An incredible lake with views that are equally as mesmerising. It is worth spending a whole day here as it's a great place to have a swim and a picnic. The sunset over the lake is known to be breath-taking.

What/where to eat: Mango Tree A seafood and Indian cuisine- this place is perfect for dinner after a long day out on a beach.

Agonda beach

What to do: Kayak or Canoe.

Marina beach

What to do: Aquarium.

Any nearby attractions: Crocodile Bank These illustrious yet dangerous animals converge on the bank together. An incredible display of crocodiles, with information to feed you and the kids animal knowledge.

What/where to eat: Ratna Café Located on Triplicane High Road, walking distance from Marina Beach. This restaurant is recommended for its Indian specialties, such as: Chilly Parotta, Oothappam and Bonda.

What to do: Spa day.

Any nearby attractions: Arambol Mountain"It's the best viewpoint in the area, so make sure to bring your camera as you will have amazing views out to sea and across the beaches either side of you. It's not a difficult hike but it will take a bit of time. So worth it.
