Aspen
The name Aspen is synonymous with skiing. This resort nestled in Colorado’s Rocky Mountains is one of the world’s top winter destinations. If you’re not a fan of snow sports, you’ll find shopping, spas and fine dining opportunities in this vacation paradise.
The main draw in the area is the Aspen/Snowmass complex with four skiing and snowboarding areas on neighboring mountains.
Aspen Mountain has the oldest ski area, covering 675 acres (273 hectares). Visitors enjoy its unique culture, which plays on this heritage. Travel back in time to the original days of recreational skiing at this mountain.
Locals flock to Aspen Highlands. Its crown jewel is the Highland Bowl, offering some of the area’s most extreme skiing. For a slower-paced outdoor activity, go snowshoeing or cross-country skiing on one of the mountain’s many trails.
Buttermilk is the most family-friendly resort in the area. Its comparatively low vertical drop makes it the perfect choice for children or beginners.
Snowmass is larger than the three other areas combined and offers a huge variety of options for visitors of every skill level. This area has more vertical feet of skiing than most other resorts in the country.
Pitkin County Open Space and Trails offer over 8,000 acres (3,000 hectares) for golf, hiking, kayaking, fishing, whitewater rafting, sailing and other warm-weather activities.
Aspen is home to five-star restaurants, luxury resorts and shops. Watch a show at the historic Wheeler Opera House or enjoy exhibits at the Aspen Art Museum. The area hosts festivals throughout the year, such as the Food and Wine Classic in June or the Jazz Aspen Snowmass every Labor Day weekend.
Fly into the Glen-Aspen Airport and drive or take a shuttle to the resort. Whether you visit for skiing, summer activities or shopping, plan on spending at least a few days in Aspen. There is enough to keep you entertained for weeks regardless of the time of year that you visit.
