Shotover Jet
This very special jet boat experience will bring you on an unforgettable journey down the furious rapids of the Shotover River. Flowing down from the Southern Alps, the river extends over 75 kilometres, allowing visitors to marvel at the beauty of the landscape while shooting downstream at speeds of up to 85 kilometres per hour, all while safely tucked into the Shotover Jet. Operating since 1970, this is a truly unique experience as no other boat operator has a licence to use the Shotover River.The experienced crew will keep you safe and sound in the boat while manoeuvring breathtakingly close to the canyon walls and even performing 360-degree turns. They use the natural features of the river to make the trip as exhilarating as possible.There is no age requirement for the trip, but you do have to be at least one metre tall, a rule necessary to ensure the Shotover Jet's safety record stays perfect. The crew will also take professional pictures during the trip so you can leave all your electronic equipment in the lockers provided before you board the boat. Simply enjoy your trip in the moment, and then pick up the photographs later.There's a platform from which you can watch your friends, family, or other brave souls fly past in the distinctive red boats. And if you are peckish, you can have a snack and a coffee in Cavells, the on-site bistro.When you buy your ticket for the boat, the tickets for the shuttle bus are complimentary and, if there is space on the bus, spectators can hop on for free too. Buses leave at regular intervals for the Shotover Jet which is located about 7 kilometres from Queenstown. A fee applies for the boat ride, and the attraction is open every day except Christmas, depending on the weather.
