Rainbow Bridge

Watch as rainbows emerge from the mist generated by the world’s most famous waterfalls as you cross this historic arched bridge.

Rainbow Bridge is an impressive structure that offers some of the best views of Niagara Falls. Cross the bridge to pass between Canada and the U.S. using its car and pedestrian lanes. Relish in the sights and sounds of these thunderous falls.

Stroll across the bridge to feel the breeze and mist from the waterfall on your face. Gaze up at the Rainbow Tower on the western Canadian side and listen for its carillon, which consists of 55 bells, sounding four times a day.

The large bridge has a length of 1,450 feet (440 meters) and its deck stands some 202 feet (62 meters) above the water. Cycle from one end to the other, stopping in the center to take in the wonderful views of the falls. Capture photos of the iconic waterfall with the Skylon Tower and other structures forming the backdrop. Take the elevator to the tower’s top-floor viewpoint for a stunning panorama of the region.

Admire the elegant arched design of the bridge. Visit the structure at night, to see it illuminated by streetlamps. Marvel at the artificial red and blue tint of the falls in the evening. Attend the Niagara Falls fireworks show on Fridays, Sundays and holidays during the summer and fall.

See the monument that marks the 1939 visit to Niagara Falls from King George VI and Queen Elizabeth. Visit Goat Island, which is beside the bridge, for its famous viewpoint of Terrapin Point.

Construction of the bridge commenced in 1940, before it opened the following year. It replaced the former Honeymoon Bridge, which was damaged by ice on the river. A small fee applies to drive across the bridge with a discount for pedestrians and cyclists. Remember to bring identification, as you will pass the international border.

Rainbow Bridge stands slightly downstream from the falls themselves and connects the U.S. city of Niagara Falls with its Canadian namesake. The bridge is located within the Niagara Falls State Park.
