San Diego Navy Pier

Whether you’re a military buff or just looking for a great day out, come to admire the amazing ships and planes on display.

Navy Pier is an incredible attraction on the glittering San Diego waterfront. The many ships and aircraft on display include the monolith that is the USS Midway—once the longest-serving vessel in the US Navy, now home to the San Diego Aircraft Museum.

The museum offers an insight into everyday life in the military, and there’s plenty to look at, with more than 20 different restored aircraft on show, from World War II planes to more modern Desert Storm fighters. If you’re short on time, you can visit the deck of the Midway free of charge—you’ll be rewarded with captivating views across the San Diego waterfront.

Sometimes serving ships even come and dock at Navy Pier. If you’re in town at the right time, come down for a free guided tour.

Head north towards Broadway Pier for views across the water to the North Island Naval Station. This operational military station often hosts aircraft carriers and fighter jets.

Lying on the San Diego waterfront, Navy Pier has so much to offer visitors who come to soak up the sun and enjoy the pleasant atmosphere. Take a stroll to the south and you’ll find green space where you can laze in the sunshine, not to mention the Fish Market Restaurant, located by the water at what was once the home of the world’s biggest tuna fleet. Further afield around Seaport Village you can explore local shops and restaurants, and look out to the Coronado Peninsula.
