Waterfront Park

You’ll find native wildlife, exotic plants, calm waters for swimming and a regular program of events at this city-center park.

Discover plant life from all over the world, artwork from some of Canada’s finest sculptors and a tranquil lake when you visit Waterfront Park. Relax on the beach in the daytime or visit in the evening to view concerts and open-air cinema screenings.

If you’re looking for a quiet afternoon to yourself, visit Waterfront Park and take in its relaxing atmosphere. Find yourself a spot on the sand at Tugboat Bay or sit beneath the shade of the oaks within the park. Swim in the lake or hire a boat and explore the water.

Walk along the boardwalks and you will pass through gardens landscaped with a mix of native species and exotic plants from all around the world. Be sure to head to Rhapsody Plaza. Here you will see fountains and artwork by some of Canada’s most renowned artists. Among the highlights is a brilliant white sculpture of three intertwined dolphins. Continue on to Rotary Marsh at the far end of the beach to spot a wide range of native bird species.

If you fancy a longer walk, the boardwalk continues into the larger City Park. Do a loop here and return to Waterfront Park to grab a drink or a snack from one of the stands. Take this path back to the beach to enjoy views across the lake and watch the boats drifting past.

If you visit during the weekend, be sure to check out the Island Stage. This performance space often features live music from local bands. The sloped berm in front of the stage creates a natural amphitheater that can accommodate more than 500 spectators.

Waterfront Park is located at the end of Water Street, close to the center of town. The park is open all day and there is no admission fee. Plenty of parking is available close by.
