Wander along the trails that wind through Scenic Canyon Regional Park’s 220.9 acres (89.4 hectares) of land. A walk in the park will take you through sub-alpine forest, past winding rivers and across meadows, which bloom with wildflowers in the warmer months. Birdwatchers will enjoy looking for the many native birds that live in the park. You may also see moose, deer, cougars and grizzly bears.

Amid the canyon’s natural beauty you will discover a number of historical sites. Imagine the area filled with hopeful pioneers when you come to the old gold pits. Several European settlers found their fortunes here during the 19th century gold rush. Search through the trees and you might stumble upon rock ovens constructed by Chinese laborers. The ovens were used to bake bread and other simple food during the construction of the Kettle Valley Railway.

Admire the park’s large riparian zone and cedar grove. Be sure to look out for various unusual geological formations such as caves and rock hoodoos, also known as fairy chimneys, which have been created over a period of thousands of years. Keen hikers will enjoy the climb to the top of Layer Cake Mountain and Pinnacle Rock. Both offer spectacular views over the park.
