Marmot Basin

Enjoy some of the best skiing conditions in the Canadian Rockies at this popular mountain resort, suitable for all the family.

Marmot Basin is a favourite destination for all lovers of winter sports. As the highest ski resort in Canada, it offers an exceptionally long season, often running from mid-November to early May, with guaranteed cold, dry powdery snow. This family-friendly destination is perfect for all ages and levels of ability, from complete novices to expert skiers.

The resort’s 86 runs will leave you spoilt for choice, and all are served by the network of chair lifts, so you can keep skiing to your heart’s content. There are groomed runs as well as others that include extras, such as bumps, alpine bowls and chutes.

If you’re looking to show off your stunt skills, head to Rogers Terrain Park, where you’ll discover jumps, rails, boxes and jibs to suit all levels of bravery. A second park, Mini Terrain Park, offers some smaller-scale options.

The lessons on offer at the Marmot Basin Snow Sports School are extremely popular, both for learning a brand new skill or refreshing your technique after a few seasons away from the slopes. Private and group lessons are available, covering both skiing and snowboarding. You can also book specific lessons held in Terrain Park to brush up on your freestyle skills.

Families with young children are fully catered for at this resort. Whilst children between 6 and 12 years old can join special day-long lessons at the Kids Ski School, those as young as 19 months old will love the Little Rascals Nursery. Make sure you pick up a Jasper-Marmot Family Card, entitling you to exclusive discounts on many products and services.

All equipment can be hired from the resort’s rental outlet, and free overnight storage is included, so you don’t have to haul your skis back to the hotel. You can also purchase your own items from the shop if you prefer.

Many visitors chose accommodation in the town of Jasper, but there are also lodges and hotels both at the foot of the slopes and mid-mountain, so you can spend as much time as possible on your skis.

Marmot Basin is 30 minutes by car along the Icefields Parkway, heading south from Jasper. Shuttle services run in the winter, and there are also direct services from Edmonton and Calgary airports.
