Paso Robles Travel Guide

Tourist Guide
Central Coast California which includes a statue or sculpture and outdoor art
On California’s central coast, visit a city with a long winemaking history, watersports and picturesque hikes.

Make your way to Paso Robles for its award-winning wineries, beautiful scenery, hot springs and cultural attractions. The city is in central California next to a coastal mountain range and surrounded by vineyards.

Wine was first produced here in 1797 by Spanish conquistadors and Franciscan missionaries. Large-scale commercial wine production began about 100 years later.

The Paso Robles wine region encompasses approximately 200 wineries. The majority are tucked into the hills surrounding Highway 81. Spend at least a day touring the wine-producing areas on the eastern side and then another day on the western side. Some wineries provide family-friendly activities. Go on a zip-line tour at Ancient Peaks Winery and take the underground caves tour at Eberle Winery.

Venture beyond the wine to experience the extensive variety of attractions around Paso Robles. Swim, boat, waterski and wakeboard at Lake Nacimiento. Mountain bike the trails around Lake Antonio and observe swans, geese and other waterfowl at Atascadero Lake Park.

Explore the area on foot along hundreds of miles of walking trails. The city itself also has a handful of trails, including the 0.92-mile (1.5-kilometre) paved Turtle Creek Loop and the short loop trail around Sherwood Forest. Rest after a long day at one of the spa centers. For centuries, visitors have come to Paso Robles for its natural hot springs.

During your stay, make sure you enjoy the numerous attractions within the city. Walk through Downtown City Park, an attractive square with a gazebo, picnic tables and a barbecue area. During the summer, listen to free concerts here on Friday evenings. Browse boutiques for handcrafted goods and buy fine art pieces from Heritage Gallery West. Watch your kids enjoy the interactive exhibits at the Paso Robles Children’s Museum. Round off your day in a restaurant overlooking Downtown City Park.

The region is located halfway between San Francisco and Los Angeles. A car journey takes about 3 hours from either city.

Come to Paso Robles to discover new wines, explore nature and relax.
