Mehamn is situated on the Nordkinn Peninsula in the far north of Norway and is the administrative centre of Gamvik Municipality in Finnmark County. In spite of its small size, the village has many places to stay and a number of annual festivals, although the main attraction is undoubtedly the great outdoors where hardy modern explorers can uncover hidden treasures.
The town is a cosy fishing community and was established due to its natural harbour and proximity to the rich fishing grounds of the Barents Sea. It is also well-known for its associations with the whaling industry and was once the largest of Finnmark’s whaling stations. Today, it is the most northerly stopping point for the Hurtigruten Ferry.
No visit to Mehamn would be complete without a trip to Kinnarodden, the northernmost point on mainland Europe. Not far away is Slettnes Fyr, the most northerly lighthouse, which is also a nature reserve and home to over 100 species of bird.

If you are travelling by road, County Road (Fylkesvei) 888 connects Mehamn with the E6 east towards Kirkenes or west towards Alta.
